This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

The rubber piece at bottom is likely the center piece of a motor coupling. See the section on the parts list for motor and pump.
The funny noise is likely the plastic pieces of the coupler rubbing against each other.

The coupling consists of three pieces. Two of them are plastic and have prongs that slip into holes in a center rubber piece. This is a fail safe device that protects the motor and transmission.

GURU JSROCK516 Description of how to remove cabinet and access the transmission. http://www.fixya.com/support/r699497-replacing_gearcase

Remove the cabinet and pump, motor and motor mounting plate.

Pry off the plastic parts from the motor and transmission.

Slid the new plastic parts on the motor and transmission, slip the new rubber piece onto the prongs on the plastic piece on the transmission.

Replace the motor mounting plate.

Carefully line up the prongs on the plastic part attached to the motor to the three unused holes in the rubber piece and re mount the motor.

Put the pump back on and replace the cabinet.

Sony DA30ES clicking sound

I have a Sony DA30ES - 18 years old now (legal age to smoke knock on wood) and started getting clicking, popping, static and other noise that I could whack out of it for a time but recently started getting 'Protect Mode' and no audio.

I gave it a visual inspection and although dusty inside, no broken fuses, bad solder joints, loose pins/ICs or bloated caps. So I was thinking replacing caps due to the age but after fiddling with it and trying to narrow faulty caps I realized there's a BLACK RUBBER CUBE glued to the bottom of the Main Board accessible when unscrewing the bottom plate. When pressing on this Rubber Cube the receiver would work no problem. So I think the rubber cube has decayed/shrunk (18 years).

I added cut to size sticky foam pieces (from command strips) directly to the cube to prop-up this section of the Main Board with the bottom plate attached and problem solved. Leave to Sony to build a superior product 18 years ago that still works beautifully today. Sony's high end products only fail due to rubber belts and other pieces like this rubber support cube. Rubber hose hanging off of gas tank

Chances are it is the overflow hose from the gas tank. If the tank is overfilled, it lets excess fuel run to the ground. Nothing to worry about.

The fan is making a "scratching" noise.

Hi steffmarin...
The scratching noise is one of two problems.
1.noisy fan bearings, cannot be lubricated, must be replaced (big job), or replace fan....
2. Plastic/rubber bearing up near the ceiling...the fan will be connected to it.
Sometimes when they get dry they get noisy.
You can spray the plastic/rubber bearing with a little WD-40 and it will hold the noise quite for a while...be sure to "wiggle" the fan around after spraying to distribute the WD-40) evenly.
If your noise problem is this then problem solved.

I hav error 21

I had the same issue with Out of Service 21. The pump was making noise during Self-test, then the error. I took the entire thing apart. I removed the pump, cleaned all the plastic/rubber parts, and reassembled. All seems to work now. The final piece that I cleaned was a tiny black washer inside the bottom portion of the plastic assembly that inserts into the pump solenoid. In the bottom of that piece (about 1/2 threaded) you'll see a star-shaped piece of plastic threaded INSIDE the barrel. I turned that out, cleaned the tiny black washer that blocks the hole, cleaned the spring, and turned the star piece back in. That seems to be what fixed it for me. However, error 21 in the manual indicates ANY issue with water flow.

Noise when agitating

if it is whirlpool then skid plate could be out of place. Ge has a total different suspension system. black rubber could be the strap that restricts movement - 4 that attach from frame to tub ring.

Lexmark x7550 Printer, Scanner, Fax - Clicking Noise Question

top feeder for the scanner (on my x6570) had a loose piece of rubber stuck between the feed wheels. The rubber is part of the guiding mechanism that guides the paper to the feed wheels. Remove rubber strip and reattach it where it belongs.
