Unplug the PCMCIA card first.
Then disable the onboard USB hub and ports. Shutdown, plug in the PCMCIA card and reboot into Windows.
Let Windows detect the card and if necessary put in the driver CD for the card. Had similar issues with my desktop PCI USB card.
After disabling the Onboard though it works perfectly fine now.

Hope this might help you a lot.
Good luck!

Toshiba satelitte a135 can the usb be replaced?

HI:
The USB ports are part of the motherboard, and you would have to replace the whole thing, which can get expensive.

They do sell a USB card that wil plug into your PCMCIA card slot , on your laptop that would get you some new, working ports.

New product not working

Make sure the usb port you plug the device in is active
Or search on the internet for the most update driver
External hard drives are plug_and_play so you don’t have to format them

Touch pad refuses to work

Try going to Toshiba's support page and re-install the driver for the touchpad. If this does not work. You may need to replace the touchpad itself.

Where is the firewire port?

Confirm that the laptop has a PCMCIA card slot. If so, you can get a Firewire PCMCIA card and communicate at near bus speeds on the laptop. That will be a lot faster than the USB port. Almost any Firewire PCMCIA will work. Just make sure that slot is in your chassis.
