Insert DVD, click lid shut. Disk barely moves maybe 1inch. Motor stops. Lens carrier homes. "NO DISK" error displays. How does it know ? If I remove the disk and manually toggle the cover switch, I get the same error. Shouldnt I see a light ? There is nothing mechanical to sense the disk. Where can I buy a replacement drive ?
Have same problem I think it's the lens. I see no laser to read the disc. If it dosen't read disc it has no need to spin disc..But you know motor is ok because it spins for short timeHave same problem I think it's the lens. I see no laser to read the disc. e22--will not finalize DVD-R disk (due to dirty lens, I think)
*unplug unit and replug after 20 minutes
*restore settings if needed, and reset clock
*insert & run/play a DVD lens cleaner disk
*dub video from the HD to a NEW BLANK DVD
*finalize after dubbing is finished
THIS WORKED ON MY MAGNAVOX MDR 533H/F7
PS: make sure that the new blank DVD disk is from the same pile of disks that you were able to finalize before.
if there's no flashing red light on lens?.. the ribbon connector of lens is not properly connect, or change it if you notice that it has lines cracked. the bad performance of the disk spinning motor is also causing why was your unit displaying "no disc" error.
Check
for fingerprints or dirt on your DVD. Wipe it clean and try again. Also
check for scratches. Try another DVD and see if your system reads it. If it does not try cleaning the drive laser lens with a CD lens cleaner available at places such as KMart or WalMart in the electronic section. If that still does not work chances are you laser on your drive is bad and needs replaced. It will need servicing.
When you get no disk error, that is usually because of a problem with the
optical laser lens that is dirty, faulty or opaque, and will start
operating on certain disks better than others.
In that case you will hear disk spinning, whirring and clicking, but
the TOC (table of content track at start of CD/DVD will not be read,
therefore the error.
Whe this problem is starting you may be able to read only CD, DVD or
Blue ray, or for example only DVD-R and not +R , or only to read and
not to write and so on. After more prolonged usage , often the unit
goes losing the rest of functions, and ends up not reading anything at
all.
If instead there is no noise, and disk does not spin at all , then
there is a faulty motor, or the motor micro-switch is bad. This
situation is far less common than the lens problem.
Try first using a CD/DVD or Blue ray lens cleaner disk to clean the lens. If that does
not work you will need to disassemble the drive , and clean lens
directly with q tips and isopropyl alcohol, or to replace the CD/DVD lens, or the whole drive unit.
If when you insert the disk you hear a whirring and clicking noise, CD spins, and does not read, then that is a problem with the DVD lens.
The DVD lens try to focus on the DVD track, by moving lens pickup and spinning the disk, but cannot read the tracks because the lens is dirty or defective.
Try first cleaning the lens with a DVD cleaner disk. And also if you can see the lens from the outside try blowing some canned air on it.
If this still does not help, then the lens pickup may be faulty, in this case you often replace the whole DVD drive unit inside the DVD player.

It is a lens problem, the laser lens is either dirty or the lens pickup is faulty.

you have dirty lens, try to cleaning with 100% cotton buds. or you have damage laser eye, or broken flex ribbon wire, but first you have to do is to cleaning the lens with cotton buds.. if not reading after you clean the lens! change the laser eye and flex ribbon wire.
