DOS applications cannot print on USB ports, but there's a workaround by using a share and the NET USE command, first create a share of that printer check this site: http://compnetworking.about.com/od/windowsnetworking/ht/printer-sharing.htm, (take note of the name you gave the shared printer) than you use NET USE command to connect the shared printer to a virtual port (LPT2) first click on START, than RUN, than type CMD than hit enter, type the following command " net use lpt2: \\127.0.0.1\(shared printer name) /yes " than hit enter, if you have a " command completed successfully " than you have your shared printer connected to a virtual port (LPT2) now it is just a matter of setting your DOS software to print to LPT2... and VOILA! it prints...
You may need to clear out your print que and restart the print services. Open a command window by typing CMD in a run box. Type the following in the command window after it opens:

If there are no errors with the printer (offline or other issues), you may have a problem with the spooler. You need to stop and restart the service. One way to do this in Windows is from the Command Prompt (Run As Administrator for Vista or Win7). Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt (right click on the option to Run as Administrator).
At the first prompt, type "net stop spooler" without the quotes and hit enter. At the next prompt, type "net start spooler" again without the quotes and hit enter. (Type Y if you get a query about the Fax system after the first command.) When the second command completes, reboot the computer and try printing again.
Try forcing the spooler to stop and restart. In the command prompt (Start > All Programs > Accessories, right click and choose run as administrator with Vista and Win7)
Type "net stop spooler" <enter> without the quotes; on the next line type "net start spooler" <enter> again without the quotes. Once another prompt comes up, restart the computer.
I hope this helps.
Cindy Wells (without the second command, the phrase "go get a cup of coffee after the reboot" becomes a part of the routine. These commands have worked since Win95.)
In Windows, if cancelling the print job does not work, the command prompt can be a very useful tool. Go Start button, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt (if standard user, right click and run as administrator) (These are for Vista and Win7, XP is similar and older were similar) Type "net stop spooler" without the quotes and hit enter. When a new prompt appears, type "net start spooler" (again without the quotes and hit enter). You can also do these one line at a time: Start Run and the two phrases. Once the commands have executed restart the computer.
If you only type the first line and then reboot, plan on taking a coffee break before the command finishes processing on the restart.
Could be software. I have seen the last several Adobe latest version documents take several seconds to print. I have also seen increased print times with MS office 2003 Powerpoint documents. If it is a single page MS Word or Excel document and u are printing several copies of it, you should turn off the collate feature for printing of that document
