It shows the initial Toshiba Screen and then goes to Windows XP screen and then the screen goes black and then it starts with the Initial Toshiba Screeen. Also it won't boot with a system disk in the DVD and it won't boot into safe mode

I put a good copy of xp pro in the cd and set the boot sequence to cd first and it pauses and goes to the HD

  • brucesheffle Aug 02, 2009

ok with some work I got it to boot from cd and run windows setup which ran very slow and failed then it wouldn't boot fro the cd again

  • brucesheffle Aug 02, 2009

Looks like the HD was bad but now when it tries to boot from the cd it says media test failed check cable. It did boot from the cd and started to load xp but then the cd drive couldn't be found how do you remove this drive?

your symptom doesn't make sense. the unit appears to be trying to boot but then bails and restarts - so IT SHOULD boot from the cd (perhaps you have an unbootable disk or a problem with the cd/dvd drive as well?)

Thanks - that makes more sense. Sounds like a hardware problem. Most likely suspect, the hard drive. You'll want to get some diagnostic tests to run. I'd recommend just booting the CD to a command prompt and running some tests. You can search for some bootable cd's for this purpose that will make your like a bit easier www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd.

Toshiba portege 2000 windows xp invalid system disk.

When booting, try going to the Boot Menu by pressing F12 when you see the Toshiba logo so you can select your hard drive as your boot device. After doing so, if you still get an "Invalid System Disc" error, then your hard drive may be shot.

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite A665-s6055 laptop. I can start it up but it won't load Windows. It just goes to the Windows load screen, then to a black screen with my cursor. Also, I can't start...

The hard drive could be slightly faulty. Try this first.
To repair missing or corrupted system file/s, boot up with the Windows installation CD then -
Press R to repair when instructed.
Press 1 or Enter to repair the C:\Windows folder.
Then type chkdsk /r and then press Enter.
The repair process will take quite a long time.

Toshiba m115-s1065 start getting a blue screen and rebooting.

Insert your windows disc. make sure your computer boots from the disc drive. Let the disc load. Do a startup repair for Vista/7. For XP let the disc load. Then select REPAIR COMPUTER. The recovery console comes up. Select your drive(C:). Enter password (if there isnt one leave it blank). Type in CHKDSK /R. Let it complete the scan. restart and you should be good. (it will take a while so be patient).

Toshiba equium l20-197 booting

Chances are that it is a driver problem, try booting in safe mode by pressing f8 during the initial bot up process and selecting safe mode, with or without networking, if your systems goes in to windows then you have a drive issue, as safe mode loads with only the basic drivers needed to run windows, hope that helps

Toshiba satellite with windows xp will only show black sreen and wont let windows xp repair

Your description of the symptom shows that your operating system installation has been corrupted. Fastest and easiest way to resolve the Issue using the "Recovery and application disk" (it comes with laptop) to perform full system recovery. I would like to remind you full system recovery will erase everything saved on Hard drive. You can check possible option on http://support.toshiba.com

If you dont have recovery and application disk you get one. You can call Toshiba @ 1-800-457-7777

Please post if you need further assitance
