Looks like the HD was bad but now when it tries to boot from the cd it says media test failed check cable. It did boot from the cd and started to load xp but then the cd drive couldn't be found how do you remove this drive?Looks like the HD was bad but now when it tries to boot from the cd it says media test failed check cable. your symptom doesn't make sense. the unit appears to be trying to boot but then bails and restarts - so IT SHOULD boot from the cd (perhaps you have an unbootable disk or a problem with the cd/dvd drive as well?)your symptom doesn't make sense. the unit appears to be trying to boot but then bails and restarts - so IT SHOULD boot from the cd (perhaps you have an unbootable disk or a problem with the cd/dvd drive as well?)

Thanks - that makes more sense. Sounds like a hardware problem. Most likely suspect, the hard drive. You'll want to get some diagnostic tests to run. I'd recommend just booting the CD to a command prompt and running some tests. You can search for some bootable cd's for this purpose that will make your like a bit easier www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd.

your dvd rom or your disc might not working properly. there can be one more problem that you RAM is creating problem just pull out RAM and clean it then insert it and do the process again.
When booting, try going to the Boot Menu by pressing F12 when you see the Toshiba logo so you can select your hard drive as your boot device. After doing so, if you still get an "Invalid System Disc" error, then your hard drive may be shot.
The hard drive could be slightly faulty. Try this first.
To repair missing or
corrupted system file/s, boot up with the Windows installation CD then -
Press R to repair when
instructed.
Press 1 or Enter to repair
the C:\Windows folder.
Then type chkdsk /r and then press Enter.
The repair process will
take quite a long time.
Insert your windows disc. make sure your computer boots from the disc drive. Let the disc load. Do a startup repair for Vista/7. For XP let the disc load. Then select REPAIR COMPUTER. The recovery console comes up. Select your drive(C:). Enter password (if there isnt one leave it blank). Type in CHKDSK /R. Let it complete the scan. restart and you should be good. (it will take a while so be patient).
try pressing f8 when it starts up and selecting safe mode then click start > programs > accessories > system tools > system restore and try restoring to an a time when it did boot up ok.
If you dont even get a menu up when you press f8 then try f11 or f12 for a boot menu and select ide 0 it may be that it is trying to boot from another device
Chances are that it is a driver problem, try booting in safe mode by pressing f8 during the initial bot up process and selecting safe mode, with or without networking, if your systems goes in to windows then you have a drive issue, as safe mode loads with only the basic drivers needed to run windows, hope that helps
Your description of the symptom shows that your operating system installation has been corrupted. Fastest and easiest way to resolve the Issue using the "Recovery and application disk" (it comes with laptop) to perform full system recovery. I would like to remind you full system recovery will erase everything saved on Hard drive. You can check possible option on http://support.toshiba.com
If you dont have recovery and application disk you get one. You can call Toshiba @ 1-800-457-7777
