PROBLEM RESOLVED!!!
The best I could find by scouring the internet was that it was a communication problem between the central control unit and the electronic control box. I was getting F1 codes that would stop the wash, then diagnostics showed F68 and F41 codes.
Sears wanted to charge $65 just to come out and diagnose it themselves, and these appliance sites wanted to charge their own fees to offer solutions. So I took a chance and ordered a new electronic control box ($146.00 + S&H) and installed it myself.
There are three long screws behind the control unit "hood", in the back-top of the washer, facing straight up and down. After unscrewing, I lifted up the hood up and forward, and there was a black box - the electronic control. First, you should check all the wires and make sure the connections are ok. If that still doesn't fix it, unplug all the wires, and take the electronic control out by unscrewing one 1/4" bolt. Put the new one in and re-wire everything (it shows what wires go where on the electronic control box - named by colors). No more error codes!
This washer is only a year and a half old as well, I guess it will pobably be my last Kenmore/Whirlp

the possibility of it being the timer is most likely..as the rest of the cycles remain ok.. if you require a timer, you can get one here at this link..(click the link here) http://www.easyapplianceparts.com/AdvancedModelSearch.aspx?ModelNum=HAV4657EWW&mfgModelNum=&fkMfgID=1
please be aware that you will need the machine serial number in order for them to issue you with the correct part/s you will require.. parts are cross referenced with the serial number.
these diagrams will also enlarge in order for you to maintain your machine by yourself at little but the cost of the parts required... but please DO NOT ATTEMPT ANY REPAIR YOURSELF if you think you may not have the technical know how to follow these technical drawings..hope this helps
SOURCE: Whirlpool Cabrio Washer Error message code F1
HELLO, Error code F1 indicates a control failure and most likely the machine control board will have to be replaced. Depending on when you purchased the machine, the board may be covered under extended component warranty.
I had the same F1 problem and they had to replace the control board and something relating to the balance. The tech told me this is a common problem.

Hi,
This sounds like it is either part of the motor that is burnt out, or a fault on the control board that controls the fast spin speed.
The motors have a number of coils, so a fault with one will cause problems at just one speed.
The power transistors on the control board can also fail - leaving one speed dead, so either of these faults may be the reason yours is not working.
#1 - Check all motor coils
#2 - Check operation of output Power transistors.
Above tests should be performed by competent engineer only.
There is also another fault concerned with an unballanced load - If it spins a few times and bounces a lot, then it will abort the spin cycle. This is usually the fault of the dampers - which are a cheap replacement.
