You have the unit power supply to an "always on" power lead instead of a "keyed on" power supply.

SOURCE: MY KENWOOD CAR CD PLAYER IS SAYING PROTECT??

Hi,

Kenwood head units show "protect" when there's a problem with the speaker outputs. This might mean a shorted speaker wire, a blown speaker, or an internal defect in the head unit. Once the condition that's causing the "protect" mode is fixed, the CD player should be back in normal mode the next time you turn it on.

If it's staying in "protect", then you'll definitely have to remove the stereo and do some troubleshooting to fix it. Many car audio stores will do system troubleshooting, for a fee. If you want to do it yourself, here's what you need to do:

Pull the Kenwood unit from the dash and disconnect all the speaker wires. Turn it on and see if the "protect" message displays. If it does, the stereo has an internal defect and will need to be serviced. If it doesn't, then turn it off, and re-connect one speaker. Turn it on again and see if it displays "protect".

If it works with a single speaker connected, keep re-connecting the others until you identify the speaker that's causing the problem. There may be a wiring problem or defective speaker in that location.

If it displays "protect" with a single speaker connected, then disconnect that one and try a different one. If all the speakers cause a "protect" mode, then you're probably back to a defective head unit, unless your friend managed to blow all your speakers at once.

Thanks,

Kdc-x969, when the unit is tured on the face does not flip down. most buttons turn the unit off but the face flips down instead of up when it shuts off

It very well could be that the internal motor that moves the faceplate is going out or has already gone out. It sounds to me like that could be the problem.

Kenwood cd player - Since i used an ipod, it comes up error 5, and wont let me play a CD in the car, or any other Ipod. Any ideas on how to reboot the player, or get it working.

Hi,
According to experts, error 5 on the player means that the player is reading the cd upside down or it cannot read the disc. you may need to run a cd cleaner ten check if it can read the cd again or if not you may need to take the player apart to clean it manually.
Cheers!!

I have a kenwood w313 car cd player and it wont store anything

Check you wiring. There are going to be 2 powers in the back of the radio. The yellow wire is the constan/memory wire. Make sure you have it hooked up to constant power.

Kenwood car am/fm cd player loads cd ok but spits it out

Try to purchase a CD disc cleaner, sometimes the "eye" gets partials of dirt on the lens. If that's the problem the cleaner will fix it in no time.
