My computer wont start it is a hp pavilion a1700. Light comes on when u power it int he back. Please help

Unplug the power from the outlet for about 5 minutes then try it.
Disconnect all USB devices with the exception of the keyboard, mouse and video, if it boots, connect one USB device at a time, restarting after device is installed, un til you find the device that is causing problems.
If none of these work, you may need a replacement power supply which you could buy from your local computer repair shop for about $35, make sure you get the correct one.
I hope this helps.
Good Luck and have a great day.

I have an HP Pavillion PC with 3GB ram running vista and I am having trouble with the keyboard missing letters as I type randomly. I can type one word 4 times and get something like: house hose huse...

HI coltronics,

It sounds like your port that your using is bad. If it's a ps/2 port, you may want to get a ps/2 to usb adapter and try it that way. If it's a usb port, try another port. I've not seen to many usb ports going bad, but you never know.

Good Luck.

I believe the power to one of my USB ports is not working. I have an HP PAVILLION DV5000. If I purchased an external USB hub would that work?

Yes, you can use an external USB hub plug it to a working USB port. You can also use a PCMCIA USB card like this:

Start up Probelms HP Pavilion Slimline

Unplug the AC power, remove the battery, wait a full minute and then reinstall AC and battery. See, if you now power up. Most power up problems are related to AC power, DC input jack, motherboard, memory or processor. A lot depends on your comfort level and expertise in how far you should go in self diagnosis and repair. Good Luck.
