Plasma is old technology and it is 16 years old and made in Mexico, the worst place for quality control. It is time for a new one, or at least an upgrade. Or you can get a board kit and take a chance on fixing it.
Check that all cables are intact and plugged in correctly. (VGA, DVI, Antenna etc.) Did you place batteries correctly?
There might only be one button that turns the TV on/off (usually a red button in the top of the remote).
The problem with this kind of trouble is that it can be the main board, even the power board or another board causing this.
Trouble shooting requires testing voltage, waveforms with a scope and schematic and signal generator---if only happens from time to time guessing can get expensive.
I had one of these (same brand) under mfr warranty---did it for a few minutes each day or sometimes longer----Samsung Tech assist said change main board and power board and ship to the customer---I advised them problem not there all the time--the reply was if it comes back we will deal with it then.
So much for technical assistance and solid troubleshooting.
check the power inverter on the power strip. also check the caps on the board and if any of those caps have a round top it is bad and needs to be replaced. i hope this helps.
Sounds like main board failure and or power board failure. You need to contact manufacturer and describe problem for tech support. Some of the parts in Samsung TVs have lifetime warranties. Change out of two board is about an hour job and service call is usually comped. Hope this helps. J
This problem can be caused by a bad main board. I have only seen it one other time though. If the unit is under warranty I would have the board replaced, If not, it is fairly expensive and you may want to live with the light. Hope this helps
