Stitch width needs to be set to zero and NO decorative stitches selected. Stitch length will simply control the space between one stitch to the next.

I am a swimwear designer and just got a juki ddl 8300n did I pick a good machine? How can I adjust the machine for a more stretchy stitch?! What number should my stitch dial be on to get a stretch?

Perhaps a manual would be helpful:

File JUKI DDL 8300N Instruction Manual pdf

You should probably contact the manufacturer with questions. Hopefully, you did some thorough research before purchasing this machine. From the info I found, it appears to be a straight stitch only machine. I don't know anything about this machine, but I would be hesitant to purchase a straight stitch machine for sewing swimwear. Usually, swimwear needs a stretch stitch or zig-zag capability. Just my thoughts...

I put the stitch in center of dial but it still does straight.what is wrong

If you want a zig-zag stitch, you need to set the stitch WIDTH selector to a higher number. Sounds like you may be changing the stitch Length selector which simply makes a longer straight stitch.

How do I get it to sew something other than the basic straight stitch?

Your machine will have a touch screen or button to increase or decrease the stitch width. However, digital machines have to be set to the zigzag position in order for the width to take effect. On this machine the # 10 turns it on zigzag.

How do I set the basting stitch length? when I try, it just beeps at me.

A BASTING STITCH IS ONLY A LONG STRAIGHT STITCH. THE NUMBER THAT IS LOWER IS A LONGER STITCH (FEWER STITCHES PER INCH). YOU WERE LIKELY MOVING YOUR NUMBER HIGHER. AFTER YOU GOT TO A CERTAIN NUMBER IT NO LONGER QUALIFIES AS A BASTING STITCH BUT A STRAIGHT STITCH. USE A LOWER NUMBER AND IT WILL LIKELY TO STOP THE BEEPING.

White sewing machine won't stop the zig zag stitch

my suggestion is take the machine in to a sewing machine shop
to be check to see if something inside is broken or come loose
knowing the machine is in good working order gives peace of mind
instead of wanting to through it out the window
and get a instruction manual
Go to the singer website for a free pdf manual
Go to the home page
Go to customer service--click on it--it will show a small menu--click on instruction manual
In the box put the model number (example w265) & click search

When buying a sewing machine that has blind hemming feature .what does this mean./

it means there is a foot included that will straight-stitch a certain number of stitches then do a zigzag stitch to the left that will catch the fold of the fabric at intervals. The fold is made at the width of the hem you want. When you finish and straighten the hem out, the hem stitches will barely be visible on the top side unlike straight-stitching across the top of the fabric. There will be a "hem stitch" option on the machine and the foot will possibly have a movable guide that runs along the fold of the fabric to where your zigzag "catching the folded fabric" stitch is consistent.

What are the best settings on the 4 dials for the straight stitch? Do the ones on top have to match the wheel settings below? Thanks from a novice

Hello,
#1- tension settings, set this to "5" and leave it
#2- width control setting, 0 would be straight while 5 would be the full width of the stitch (would make a wide zig zag)
#3- Length control, larger the number, longer the stitch. (usually you will set this from 1.5 to 2.5)
#4- Stitch selector, match up the number with the stitch you want to sew. If you want to use the lower row of stitches (14-25) set the length dial to "ss". (ss stands for stretch stitch, such as for #14 (three rows of straight dashed lines) instead of just sewing one stitch forward, the machine will sew back and forth giving you a stretchy stitch/stronger)

I have an older New Home Sewing machine XR-V11 electronic I have figured out the threading, bobbin, regular stitching and back stitching. It has alot of fancy stitching on it I can get the dial to move to...

It does not matter what pattern you select, if you have the stitch width dial on 0 or set on straight stitch then that is all it will do, to do patterns you need a close stitch length about 2 or if it is not numbered get the stitches close to suit yourself and the stitch width on the widest number.

Setting Machine on Different Stich Patterns

Turn the dial for stitch length so that the black line that separates the stitch length numbers from the buttonhole functions is in the 12 o'clock position. This engages the gears that operate your red stitches.
