Question about Sewing Machines
My singer sewing machine came to me from a friend.
It doesn't have a model number on it, neither does any of the accompanying literature... manuals, instruction sheets indicate what model it is, so I have had to enter a random model in the space below in order to submit this request for help!
It does have this printed on the manual: "5,8,10, 13 &22 Pattern Sewing Machines."
Here is the problem:
When I raise the presser foot lever the presser foot shank does not raise. The foot remains down.
I can lift the presser foot manually, however. When I do this the lever does not move.
I have the exact same problem as the person with the Singer, but I have an ancient Montgomery Ward sewing machine. I have oiled it everywhere I thought it needed, but will open it up and try it again. If that doesn't work, I suppose it will need to be serviced, and I'll let everyone know how that goes.
If you can remove the cover on the left side you will see the presser foot bar. On the bar there will be a screw that may be loose. Turn the handwheel until the needle is all the way down and lift the foot manually until just before it makes contact with the needle clamp and tighten the screw on the presser foot bar.
That should do it.

It could be that yours is frozen like mine was. I followed the directions for resetting the screw, but it still wouldn't go. I had to sand off the rust and tap the end with a hammer! Now it goes up and down just fine! I have a Singer 9005, but like the techie said, they are all a lot a like in this part.
