Question about Sewing Machines

Presser foot lever does not lift presser foot

My singer sewing machine came to me from a friend.
It doesn't have a model number on it, neither does any of the accompanying literature... manuals, instruction sheets indicate what model it is, so I have had to enter a random model in the space below in order to submit this request for help!

It does have this printed on the manual: "5,8,10, 13 &22 Pattern Sewing Machines."
Here is the problem:
When I raise the presser foot lever the presser foot shank does not raise. The foot remains down.

I can lift the presser foot manually, however. When I do this the lever does not move.

I have the exact same problem as the person with the Singer, but I have an ancient Montgomery Ward sewing machine. I have oiled it everywhere I thought it needed, but will open it up and try it again. If that doesn't work, I suppose it will need to be serviced, and I'll let everyone know how that goes.

If you can remove the cover on the left side you will see the presser foot bar. On the bar there will be a screw that may be loose. Turn the handwheel until the needle is all the way down and lift the foot manually until just before it makes contact with the needle clamp and tighten the screw on the presser foot bar.
That should do it.

On every sewing machine presser foot bar there is a collar near the center of the bar. This collar has a screw in it to tighten it to the presser foot bar. The lifter hits this collar and raises the bar. If the screw is loose it will only raise the collar on the bar and not the bar. Maybe first you should reposition the collar (even loosen the screw to do so) and lower the collar down to the lifter lever. You will find the right spot so that when raising the lifter it will make contact with the collar with the screw in it and raise the presser foot bar. Pretty much the same on all sewing machines.

It could be that yours is frozen like mine was. I followed the directions for resetting the screw, but it still wouldn't go. I had to sand off the rust and tap the end with a hammer! Now it goes up and down just fine! I have a Singer 9005, but like the techie said, they are all a lot a like in this part.

Presser foot doesn't go down. Presser foot lever goes up and down but the presser foot does not. Singer sewing macine.

There may be a disconnection between the lever and the presser foot bar. Perhaps a screw has fallen out, broken, or is loose? May need to take it for service.

The presser foot won't go down.

Yes indeed, it is possible--sounds to me like a screw worked itself loose. However, I would purchase the service manual for your machine. As a bonus, it tells you how to make all kinds of useful adjustments.

Go to Sewing Parts Online and do a search under Singer Service Manuals; if they don't have it in stock, call or email them and they will be happy to order it for you. Generally takes two weeks to get it in stock.

How do I connect the presser foot lever?

You need to including your model number information to get an answer. However, if you go to the Singer Sewing machine site, you can download your user's manual that will show you that, for free.

Pressure foot won't stay up

The presser foot lift lever on many newer janome sewing machines will wear out with use. It can easily be replaced by a sewing machine repair shop or Janome dealer. Or you can look online for a "presser foot lifter" or "presser foot lift lever" making sure to find the correct one for your machine.

Vintage Tough and Sew Model # 628 PRESSER FOOT QUESTION!

You should be able to figure out which shank your machine has here:

http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/sewing-machine-presser-feet.aspx

If you have the manual, it should show you how to change the presser feet.

SINGER Instruction Manual pdf model 628

If your machine and presser foot look like the one in the video, the screw on the left side of the presser foot should be what holds the presser foot in place.

I have a 9960 singer machine and am trying to use the buttonhole presser foot for the first time and I can not get it to sew T

the buttonhole foot snaps on to the presser bar, there's a little lever at the back of the presser bar that releases the foot, then put the buttonhole foot down on the needle plate & use the presser foot lifter (number 11) to lower the presser bar down onto the buttonhole foot & you'll hear a click sound when it snaps on & make sure to use the buttonhole lever(number 31) because the machine won't sew a buttonhole unless that lever is pulled down.

The presser foot lifter on my machine is not engaging this allows the needle assembly to spin - is there a way to fix this?

Your question is not clear. The pressure foot lifter only lifts the pressure foot. It doesn't make the needle spin.

My presser foot lever wont lift the presser foot all the way up on my singer

Make sure that your needle is in the highest position, turn your handwheel towards you, not away from or else you will mess up the timing
