We've descaled and the light still appears on the saeco odeo giro

Yes this is correct. You have to press the steam/water button down ... and NOT the descale button as the instructions say in the manual. Apparently Saeco/Phillips has had so many descaling problems with this machine that it has stopped making them. I am convinced that it was the error in the manual that caused most of the descaling problems that are reported - not the machine.

Keep pressing the water button for 6 secs until the flashing light goes off.

Hold the water button in for about 15 seconds.

There are 2 inserts pins in the steamvalve assembly, they need to be replaced replace. Easiest solution order a new valve assembly.

This is the descaling indicator.
If it flashing your machine needs descaling.
