Panasonic plasma restarts while watching HD content
While watching any HD channel, some random black horizontal lines appear on the screen they don't last much, like thunderbolts, then I hear a click sound and the TV goes off, and then on again.
- The TV set was bought new in 2011 and it's not heavily used 1 hour/day?
- It happens with HD channels DVB-T, or from a Raspberry Pi via HDMI, but it doesn't happen from the moment I switch on the TV. I would say that the TV has to be switched on for sometime before it starts happening.
- It doesn't seem to happen with SD channels.
- It all started yesterday. What was different yesterday?
- TV hadn' been used for about a month
- It was the first time I connected the Raspberry Pi to act as a media center
- Things I've tried:
- I've left it unplugged the whole night
- I've reset the TV to its default state and restarted it I've had to choose country, language, to scan channels...
- I've disconnected the Raspberry Pi

Hi my LG 47ln5700 tv set has thin greyish black horizontal lineson one side of the .... I hope this works good with Samsung LCD as well....
One of your "X" buffer boards is defective. In Panasonic plasma tv's they are located at the bootom of the set and connect directly to the plasma diplay panel via a thin ribbon cable. The board you want to replace will be directly in line with the discolored vertival line in the picture. The part number is on the circuit board and usualy starts with "tnp..." or "txp..."
On the Panasonic if you can open and repair problem you can be helped. If not call a repair center. On the Samsung I'm afraid the Repair guy is right. If you can see the line with Unit turned off then it is not electronic failure.
Sorry I did not have good news for you. Let me know about the Panasonic Plasma. Could be dirty contacts from the x board to the display.
Ive got bad news for you, about 90% of the time black horizontal lines are caused by the panel failing, your going to need a new TV. You can try replacing the timing board but the chances of it fixing it are slim..
unfortunately the panel is bad. I've worked on a number of these panels to know that symptom. I checked with panasonic and the warranty is one year parts and labor. you may be able to get panasonic to fix it if you still have warranty (purchased within 1 yr.) or check with your state's implied warranty. you might qualify for warranty repair under this implied warranty. call panasonic when you find out about the state's rules.
