My Electrolux fridge freezer TR 1053 has been off for a few months and when turned back on, got a crackling noise, smoke coming from little black box beside one of the compressors and then it blows fuse in plug top?

If I can explain Ray, this is a spare fridge freezer which I only use when I need to defrost my everyday fridge freezer so there is no urgency to replace it and I have time to fix this if possible and being an electrician, its a bit of a challenge also. Does your knowledge extend to maybe knowing what the actual problem is? Maybe I just need a new black box whatever is inside it, starting components maybe?

sounds like the compressor has seized up which the cost to replace that will be substantial not to think of the other stuff it will involve. many times you can find a really good used one if you look around .

Electrolux ETE 4200 SB-R freeze fridge. freezer cold, but fridge wont cool. back of the unit sealed with only compressor (?) visible at bottom. Cant check fans, coils etc. Cheers Gary

That is not a good model number. Is it a top mount freezer or side by side? Generally in electrolux the freezer is what cooks the fridge, if fridge is not cooling, it could be several things causing it.
1. Damper not opening
2. Damper has ice build up
3. The return has ice build up
4. The freezer evap assembly is not defrosting to allow air flow.
5. The evap fan is not turning.

Fridge not getting cold

With a top freezer the cold air comes from the freezer down into the fridge. It uses a fan to blow the air down. It's possible that the fan is burned out. Does the fan come on if you turn the temp. to the fridge to colder? If not, then that may be the problem. The fix is not too easy, but can be done by an experienced do-it-yourselfer.

Hole burning through floor of Freezer

Your refrigerator is likely a frost free model. There is a heating element that runs around the freezer compartment. It is probably the heating element that is causing the original damage to progress.

Most fridges have a way to turn off the frost free part, usually via the timer or or easy as pulling the fuse for the circuit. Pull the fridge out, climb behind it, unplug fridge, and remove access cover, if equipped. Look for a wiring diagram. It will tell you where you need to disable the frost free at.

If you can't disable the frost free, then replace fridge now. the acrid smoke you smell is toxic, and is detrimental to food, as well as to human life. Stop using the fridge, or disable frost free.

Freezer works, fridge does not, runs constant though

Try turning it off and defrost it for 48hrs with both doors open. Then turn it back on if it's still not colling the fridge then you need to check to see if the fan in the freezer goes at all. If it cools for a few days then goes warm again you may need a new D'frost element, D'stat or something else cheers

Loud noise from the freezer side

The problem is a buildup of ice on the plastic housing (the curved plastic bit) in the back of the freezer under the fixed shelf where the icetub goes. The fan behind this plastic housing is hitting the ice when the defrost comes on.

Unplug the fridge, unpack the freezer, remove the four screws in the back, take off the sheetmetal backing and let the fridge thaw. You can remove the plastic piece after a while and get the ice off (be careful not to remove the styrofoam insulation by going too quickly).

Reassemble and you're back in business, for a few months. I'm never buying Samsung again myself.

Fridge freezer

there is a fan inside freezer behind back panel. if pipework behind panel is covered with ice, it will prevent air circulation and the fridge is affected first

take back panel off and check for ice build-up and that the fan is working
