have you tried a usb mouse ?? as if that works it will be the touch pad is playing up. you can disable it and use a wireless mouse or usb one. as it would be cheaper then replacing the touch pad.
Well i'm not there, so i can't actually fix it for you, but chances are, assuming nothing out of the ordinary happened to it (eg, dropping it) you may have accidentally locked the mousepad. You can fix this in the control panel. I forget exactly where though...
It is possible that the driver is not installed correctly, or not even installed at all. What you can try, is to go to manufacturers web site, and download the driver needed for it, and install it
Check if you have any button on panel says about to lock the keys and mouse? Use your manual book if you have one. Lenovo has got this buttons that locks the keys and mouse to prevent unautorized use while you are away. Possible located next to the audio or power button.

Usually this problem can be easily solved by accessing and changing your mouse settings. On your PC desktop, click "start", then click "control panel", then click "mouse", then on the "buttons" tab you'll see an option that says, "button configuration". That button needs to be adjusted according to which side of the mouse you'd like the pointer to work from. Once you set the side you'd like, make sure you click, "OK" to seal the deal!

Great job, I myself prefer to use a extra mouse rather then the built in one, if you chose to do this it wont work right away but if you give it a moment to recognize the mouse it will then be functionable.
Unplug usb, reinstall driver ,plug usb back. Or restart computer. I have the same annoying problem. It's the only solution i found.
It's nice having that kind of problem when clients are next to you, and you have to crawl under your desk to unplug the usb, and re-install everything. Makes it totally solvable.!
