Did you bother to check if the new motherboard was compatabe with your hard drive? Because sometimes, the slots and stuff are, but the motherboard functions differently if the hard drive is not compatable by model. Check again, and maybe, the hdd wasn't put it wright or something.

Anyways, hope this helps.

Im using hp dv6700t laptop,i want to install xp on my laptop

Your laptop has a SATA hard drive and windows XP doesn't recognize those drives cause the operating system came out before those drive were made.

Follow these steps I found thru google to get windows xp sp3 to recognize your drive:

http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-39282-xp-can-t-recognize-hard-drive-for-os-install

You'll have to use a program to do this but people explain how to do it on that page plus the program is free.

My HP Pavillion DV9000 Laptop wont detect the hard drive

When I tried first installing windows XP on my laptop, I had the problem that I already had Windows Vista on it, but wanted to delete it and install Windows XP. Whenever I tried installing XP, it kept telling me that there was no hard drive. I searched through all the forums on this topic and finally found out that I had to change a setting in the BIOS called native SATA driver support.

My assumption is that once they changed the mainboard on your PC, the bios settings changed as well. Try searching through your BIOS, it might have a similar setting that you might need to change.

Do i need to change my harddisk?

Hello,

It sounds like UBUNTU formated your hard drive where xp does not reconized the drive. When you go into BIOS setting, do you see your hard listed? If so, you should be able to put a clean install of XP to the drive. When you start the install, you must select REFORMAT drive and install XP. If this still fails, you may need to fdisk your drive first using DOS command and reinstall XP. Let us know if you incounter any more problems after doing this. Good Luck.
