Hi, I have a Samsung LN40A550 LCD TV which I have had for just over a year. ... I was watching TV yesterday and all of a sudden the picture went all. ... started makinga very high pitched buzzing sound with no picuture coming on. Your back light is not working or the inverter circuit is damaged.
Have it checked by pc technician. These parts will need replacement ..

that is most likely the sleep mode on the screen saver

open with start button

control panel

display icon

adjust screen save settings for longer

and look to see what happens in power save mode for shutdown

should work well

I will assume that you have checked out the power cables and external cables. If this is the case you will usually notice an indicator light from your monitor. Universally it is yellow or orange when it has power, then turns green when it detects input from your computer. If the Led light doesn't turn green even when your laptop is already booted, your culprits would be your iMac's video controller or your monitor's input cables.

that rubbery nipple when its pressed in is what allows the screen to go into sleep mode. Sounds like it might be stuck halfway in between. Go ahead and try to take out the top cover with the rubbery nipple on it. See if the screen lights up like normal, if it does then you know the rubbery nipple is the problem and just needs to be readjusted so it doesn't get stuck.

If it still stays dim then its either the lcd or the inverter that is bad.

do a hard reset....remove charger>remove peripherals>remove battery> press and hold the power button for about 30secs, while batt and charger is removed> then plug in the charger only and turn ON!

actually in these case laptop does'nt display due to many causes some might be in vga chips, inverter, and LCD etc. but in these side first check if light indicators normal all. then check the inverter.

Go into control panel and check under power options..you can control when your computer goes into sleep mode and when it doesn't...when it doesn't come back up it means it went into hibernation mode which an also be controlled under power options..the screen will stay dim if you are using battery power only..finally its not your screen that controls your screen its your video card..try those suggestions and let me know what your power options area set at..if they are set correctly then we can talk about a new video card..please rate this suggestion with 4 diamonds..

You can google search for an app called NOSLEEP.EXE
It was written by a Symantec employee to keep your screen active regardless of pic settings.
Install and run it. That will verify the issue is with of or monitor

go to your dispaly setings and check on the contrast and ilumination, if they are low, increase them and the screen will be bright
