Get the on screen menu on the screen
scroll around till you see aspect ratio and click on that use the buttons to change ( you will see the changes on the screen)
click ok and exit when satisfied
Fir aspect ration to change there can be a few reasons
some tv stations produce movies in the wrong ratio and it shows up for the movie as black edges or tall figures or fat figures ( change channel to verify)
or there can be a fault occurring in the board of the set that will not hold preset aspect ratios

How do i fix a too wide picture on my sony kdl40ex500?

Why are you using 4:3 letterbox? It might be the default aspect ratio but widescreen tvs should be set to 16:9 aspect ratio.

How to change aspect ratio on sharp tv?

You cant change the aspect ratio. You can stretch and zoom programs . Some programs like movies are in letterbox and you can stretch to fill the screen, but the results are not perfect. Circles will be oval and you will cut off some of the viewable picture. This is normal

The text along the sides of the tv screen are not completely in view

you need to change the 'zoom' on the tv by the remote.
Normal mode frames the 4:3 video to the 16:9 picture area by displaying it in its original aspect ratio, with vertical gray or black bars on both sides of the screen. The disadvantage of this method is the fact that the image is small by virtue of not using the entire width of the screen. This is also known as the 4:3 mode.
Full mode Full mode horizontally stretches the 4:3 video evenly across the entire width of the screen. This is the proper mode to display anamorphic video. If used for standard aspect ratio video, everything on the screen will appear wider than normal. Contrast this with anamorphic video displayed without processing on a 4:3 display, in which people on the screen will appear taller than normal. This is also known as the 16:9 mode.
Zoom mode Zoom mode evenly stretches the picture both horizontally and vertically, until the picture fills the entire width of the screen. This crops out the top and bottom of the picture. This mode is used for letterboxed and open matte video.
14:9 mode Main article: 14:9
In 14:9 mode, the picture is magnified more than in Normal mode, but less than in Zoom mode, while retaining the original aspect ratio.
Wide Zoom mode Wide Zoom mode, also called Just mode, Horizon, or Smart Stretch, progressively stretches the picture horizontally, less in the middle and more on the edges. This allows normal aspect ratio video to be displayed across the entire width of the screen, with minimal cropping, and with much less of the unpleasing visual stretching effect of Full mode.

Do all Blu-ray discs play with the black area at the top and bottom of the screen; like letterbox format? How can I expand the picture to full screen size on my LG 42LD450 tv? Maybe I'm just not...

They all play with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Sometimes they will be letterboxed and other times you will get a full screen with them. On your T.V. remote there should be a picture size button or format or a zoom button that should get you full screen.

I purchased a DVD that states: Widescreen Format (Aspect Ratio 1.85.1) I'm unable to get 'widescreen/letterbox'. The movie shows up full screen or a 'stretched' view. All other movies I've...

On the DVD recorder remote: press function menu button: enter setup screen - scroll down to connection - TV aspect - select either 16:9 / 4:3 Letterbox / 4:3 Pan&scan. If you are using an older TV which is not a widescreen, set the aspect to '4:3 Letterbox'.

You should now be able to view your DVD movies from this machine through a 4:3 standard TV in letterbox format. (some DVDs do not allow pan&scan so letterbox or widescreen is recommended). Very rare that a DVD title is not compatible with 4:3 TVs. I assume your deck is set to output 16:9 aspect by default.

I find this is the cheapest and easiest solution and can save lots of dollars in service call-outs. You can always reset the unit back to shipping condition later if you need to, or in the rare case of digital channels disappearing from your tuner memory.

I have a 55cm TFT LLED-22FHD TV. The aspect ratio is 16:9. This is too wide and the images appear fat. How do I correct this.

Go to the picture menu and select a different aspect ratio. Auto sizing is useful as the TV will detect the picture size and select the correct aspect ratio, except for letterbox and super wide screen of course as your screen is not the right shape for those.
Hope this helps.

Edges of picture being cut off LG 37LG30 LCD TV

Yes, it is possible the settings from your cable box maybe set to the wrong ratio eg:letterbox. Depending on what type of box you have, look in the cable box menu for a settings option, then change the aspect ratio to a different format.

I had the same problem. What you need to do is change your aspect ratio on your TV. Should be on your TV remote. While you wont get a full screen mode you will get very close. I cant remember what aspect I switch my plasma too I think Full mode. Anyways hope this helps.
