SOURCE: Ice Dispenser not working on PSS26SGPA Stainless Side by Side

This is a common problem with this GE and "lookalike" models. The dispensers first break the front plastic drum that holds to the auger and eventually cracks the rear circular sleeve as well. Pieces from the drum usually fall off and are even dispensed with ice ... eventually the drum is damaged enough that the auger no longer operates. The motors on these units, however, continue to operate.

You can receive the replacement parts needed to make the ice maker auger operate again by visiting the GE parts website. A usual repair will run $40-60. Unfortunately, the design of the replacement drum has not changed, so be prepared for this to happen again.

Best of Luck.

SOURCE: GE PS123 MGNA CC Ice Auger

I just finished replacing the ice auger in my GE HSS25GFPA side-by-side and offer some suggestions/hints.
The auger (WR17X11705) was available locally (Appliance Parts Co., $28.97). This fits many other refrigerators. The replacement took a little under 2 hours. I estimate these hints may cut the time by one-half.
There are only 4 screws in the entire ice drawer assembly. It possibly was not necessary to remove the control rod. The other 3 screws hold the front cover. There are also 2 tabs holding the top of the cover.
The most difficult part of the repair was removal of the plastic assembly housing the crusher blades and the front bearing of the auger. This is held in place by only 2 large square tabs on the sides. There is enough space to get ONE side to release BUT to get both released required careful prying with thin-bladed screwdrivers (and prayer). These "tabs" don't push in, rather the drawer flexes out. Once released, the unit slides up and angles to allow removal of the auger/crusher. Re-assembly could not be easier. Stainless sheet metal screws would probably work if you do break something.
Remove the clear inside cover of the crusher assembly and the "C" clip on the threaded end of the auger shaft to separate the auger from the crusher.
And now for my PRIMARY reason for sharing my experience - the %#$@ plastic nut/bearing is a LEFT-HAND THREAD. I only realized this when trying to bend my make-shift split screwdrive back and the SOB loosened right up!
Carefully note the locations and orientations of the blades and spacers as you move them from the old to the new auger.
Good luck!

SOURCE: ice maker dispenser gets stuck.

I have this identical unit and have had this identical problem. What we do is remove the entire ice container from the refrigerator and shake it to break up the ice inside or we remove large chunks of adjoined 'cubes' and replace the entire tray/container and it has worked fine for us thereafter.

The auger in the ice maker has broken on our model gss201etaww serial dll222857. Can we just buy the auger or do we need to buy the whole ice drawer?

you can buy just a auger. But you better pretty handy. because you have to take bucket apart and lots of small parts that have to go back in the right order. might be better off buying the whole complete bucket.that is ready to go after you wash it

The parts in my ice bin have rusted or coroded and now the ice bin needs to be replaced. I can only find parts. Where can I get a whole new ice bin for my Amana sxd26vw?

Hi,
The only assembly I could find was a auger and blade already assembled. Part # 12740302
Auger and Blade
For this model I am unable to find one that would be complete.
I hope this helps
At least these are the only parts the could rust in this bucket other than the flat metal plate in front.

Ice maker makes ice but can't dispense ice

Please try this. Remove your Removable Ice Bucket Assembly which is where the Auger (corkscrew) is located. You should be able to see the Auger Motor Drive Fork which is located permanently inside the freezer compartment... opposite the end of the Removable Ice Bucket Assembly that you just took out. Close the freezer door and attempt to dispense ice... if you can hear the Auger Motor running as you attempt to dispense ice... then the Auger Motor is OK. Dump out all the ice that is in your Removable Ice Bucket Assembly and wash it out in your kitchen sink with warm water. Reach into your freezer and put your hand on the Auger Motor Drive Fork ... you should be able to rotate it CW or CCW...it is a little hard to turn but it will turn. Position the Auger Motor Fork to a 12:00 and 6:00 o'clock position. Now take your Removable Ice Bucket Assembly and position its Receiver Auger Fork to a 9:00 and 3:00 o'clock ....Re install the Removable Ice Bucket Assembly into the Auger Drive Fork. Close the freezer door and again attempt operate the ice dispenser... you should hear the Auger Motor again run as you press the ice dispenser. Note....at this same time the Ice Chute Door in the Freezer Door should spring open so that ice can fall out. Of course you have no ice in the Auger at this time...but it all this works then future production of ice will fall out. Note...Usually the Auger Motor never fails. but the whole thing can get jammed with ice and not dispense. Also, the the solenoid that operates the Ice Chute Door fails quite frequently. Last but not least... if nothing is happening... it is a control board type problem. Hopes this helps! Handy Henry

The icemaker makes ice, but it won't dispense.

rmielsen and PhyllisForbe,  Your refrigerator has an auger motor that causes the ice to be dispensed when you press the ice selector on the front of the refrigerator.  You could have several possible problems that will gives you the same result.  The auger motor could be at fault. The ICE selector part of the  control panel of the front of the refrig could be at fault.  To isolate to auger or control... do the following.  Remove the ice bucket or auger assembly from the freezer. Reach into the freezer compartment where the auger assembly normally would be.  You should be able to see a "horse shoe shaped metal drive assembly" that would mesh with the auger assembly (ice bucket) to turn the cork screw shaped auger. Try and turn the auger drive assembly in rear of freezer to determine if motor armature is free.  The is somewhat difficult to do because the auger motor is high torque, slow rpm motor, but it should turn if it is good. Sometimes the auger motor will become stuck due to a water leak, inactivity, high humidity during a defrost cycle, etc.  The more possible suspect is the ICE selector assembly on the front of the refrigerator.  If any function on the refrig fountain dispenser control panel goes bad...then the ice/water control assembly will need to be replaced.  Hopes this helps you!  HandyHenry
