I currently have no os loaded on my laptop....when installing ubuntu/linex on it I continue to get errors... is my harddrive done? Do I need to replace it?

It could either be:
* the CD-ROM drive is mis-reading,
* the CD-ROM media is damaged,
* the hard-drive is mis-writing or mis-reading,
* the RAM in your computer is mis-writing or mis-reading.

Download the free 'MEMTEST86+' software, and burn it to a bootable CD-disk. Boot your computer from the CD, and it will "exhaustively" do a "test" of your RAM.

Can't load SmartDisk FDUSB=TM2 on Vista Premium 64

Hello,
Windows Vista carries a lot of glitches ....we need to give it more time as it improves. The XP environment works better with older technologies like the smart disk floppy drive. My advice is for you to partition your hard disk and place Windows XP on one side and still keep the Vista on the other. That way you can have both OSystems and still be able to use your floppy drive. Alternatively you can upgrade and use a flash drive storage or DVD/CD. They are newer technology which are more compatible with Vista.

Cheers & Kind Regards

ABOUT OS...

No it is not if Vista is already loaded. In order for it to work and have a dual-boot, the earlier OS must be loaded first. So, first you must have Windows XP; then you can load Windows Vista; however it does not work the other way around. So if you wanted to have both, you would have to wipe your hard drive clean, load Windows XP, then load Windows Vista....Good Luck.

Windows vista will not boot on a toshiba laptop

First try boot options.

On start up press F8, you get different boot options listed.

Select "last known good configuration"
If this doesn't work, try "boot into Safe Mode". Then restart once safe mode loads.

If neither of these work, you may have to attempt a "repair" of windows.

Get a Windows Vista Operating system disk (same version of Vista, Home or Premium).

1. Boot from it (put it in CD drive and restart the laptop).

2. If you still get the same problem start up, you need to set the laptop to boot from CD.

3. Restart laptop, press Delete key or F2, or F12 (it should say one of these on the screen) to enter the Setup. or another key to get "boot options"

4. In Setup (BIOS) Use Right Arrow to find the Boot Options. Use the instructions to move the CD-ROM to first position, above HDD (hard drive). Press Esc, then F10 to save your changes and exit.

5. The Windows Setup CD Rom should now run. It should come to a screen where you are asked to press R to repair windows.

6. When it comes to the command prompt, restart the laptop

Hopefully the laptop should boot OK again.

Easy CD & DVD Burning and Windows Vista

You may need to run the setup directly from the CD rather than letting the autorun start and running it from there. Open up "My Computer" and go to the CD drive, right click on it and select "Explore" find the "Setup" file, and right click on that, select "Run as Adminstrator".

MY VISTA WINDOWS WONT LOAD

Okay, I think I can help you but I need some more information. I'm assuming your Acer laptop currently has a version of Windows XP installed, yes? And Acer gave you a CD to upgrade your OS to a version of Windows Vista?

And when you mean that you go to your BIOS to access the CD, I'm assuming that you are talking about the boot options menu (selecting the cd drive vs the hard drive or floppy drive or what not) correct?

When you select the CD drive to boot from, what exactly happens? Do you get any error message? Does the computer turn off? Does it appear to try to load from the CD and then switch to your hard drive instead (and load your existing operating system)?
