Okay, I think I can help you but I need some more information. I'm assuming your Acer laptop currently has a version of Windows XP installed, yes? And Acer gave you a CD to upgrade your OS to a version of Windows Vista?

And when you mean that you go to your BIOS to access the CD, I'm assuming that you are talking about the boot options menu (selecting the cd drive vs the hard drive or floppy drive or what not) correct?

When you select the CD drive to boot from, what exactly happens? Do you get any error message? Does the computer turn off? Does it appear to try to load from the CD and then switch to your hard drive instead (and load your existing operating system)?

To put it simply, that is not good news. That message that your computer is giving you is an indicator of serious hardware problems. Basically, there is a utility called SMART built into your hard drive. As your hard drive is operating this software keeps track of many different variables relating to the performance of your hard drive. If in the process of these checks, it thinks that your hard drive will die very soon it will give you that message upon startup of your computer... that message is basically designed to give you time to pull data off of your hard drive before it goes kaput completely.

Unfortunately, there is nothing that I or you can really do to solve this problem. As it's a hardware issue your only option is really to send the machine into Acer and have them replace your hard drive for you. Even if it were possible to bypass this error for a short time, it would be very likely that your hard drive would give out at some point without any other warning.

I'm sorry that I couldn't get your problem fully fixed, but don't worry, Acer support is actually pretty nice. I own an Acer laptop myself and have had to send it in for hardware malfunction before, they're usually very quick with their repairs...

I ahve no drivers to install windows vista.

this happens to my acer a lot.  your hard drive was most likely knocked from its position and you need to open up the back and put it back in.  if that doesnt work then another component on it is broken and you will have to have a professional look at it

Acer Aspire 5050 Won't Boot.

Your problem could be windows vista isnot installed properly
i assume in the beginning, your laptop come with windows xp.
if you want to go back to windows xp, you can still use alt+f10, as long as you don't delete the recover partition.
Just boot and press Alt+F10, it'll give you recover screen.

Acer Aspire 5050 Won't Boot.

your only problem is VISTA, go back to xp vista has no benefits at all for normal uses... at least for now. Besides that problem could be caused by too many things and the information you provided is very incomplete...
