Hi,
Symptom shows battery is no more good to store charge so charge response and storage cycle becomes shorter.
NWZ-E438F sounds new model and would be under warranty. Call Sony service for warranty cover.
In case its not under warranty and you want to repair it by yourself then battery part number is as under..
X23198181 Battery N Assembly
Available in Part Store for $49
Thanks.
Hi, I have doubts as to whether the battery is stuffed at all. I should
have put forth more info. When I connect it to the computer, the battery
indicator shows charging, but as soon as the Walkman is properly
connected up and running with the PC, that's when the battery indicator
says 'full'. It does this every time without fail. The battery seems to
hold it's charge well, I have had it 2 weeks and it was 'half' full,
and today it just went to quarter full. It does seem to charge a little
when I connect. Whatever the case it's not under warranty and I am not
forking out $49US for a battery.

OK, your feedback shows battery is working fine and its just normal behavior of walkman when it got connected with PC, it starts battery charging itself until you upload/ download files in it.
Battery is fine and no need of replacement.

I have a Sony Walkman, model NWZ-E438F and am having trouble charging it. I had no trouble uploading songs to it, the battery seems to hold charge well but when I connect it to a PC it tells me the battery is full straight away without fail. I know it's not full and am pretty sure the battery ain't kaput as this player is rather new. Any suggestions?
