ICe stuck in dispenser; flap not fully closing

Our Side by side Whirlpool fridge has the ice dispensor in the door. If we use crushed ice, it gets stuck in the dispensor. Have been able to fix in the past...but this time it was bad. Finally got he tub out of the door (ice so stuck couldn't get it out). The flap dispensing the ice doesn't appear to be closing all the way. And now we think the motor may be broken as it doesn't seem to be turning with the tub removed. How can I get a replacement for the flap to keep air from getting in there and melting, thus clumping, the ice? And how about the motor. If it still doesn't work, I guess I should call a repair man?? How much does the service call usually run??

First pull out the ice bucket and close the door.  Set for cubed ice.  Press the button for ice to come out and listen for a loud clunk noise.  That is the sound of the solenoid.  You can open the door, hold the light switch and press the button and watch for the solenoid moving up and down.  Solenoid is at the back of the freezer in a little square opening where the rod on the ice bucket goes into.  If that solenoid is moving ok then put the bucket back in while the solenoid is in the down position and cubes should work.  If solenoid is not working then it will need to be replaced.  Let me know what you find.

SOURCE: icemaker makes ice; door dispenser cranks, but no ice dispensed

sounds like either the dispenser motor is bad or the dispenser yoke is stripped. remove the bucket from the freezer. you will see a u shaped yoke in the rear of the disp area. this should be fairly hard to turn by hand if it turns easily then the motor gears are bad if the yoke slips on the motor shaft then you have a stripped yoke. hope that helps. peyton...

Dispenser door flap not closing

Have you checked that ice is not stuck in there? I have seen this happen especially when set to crushed ice. Otherwise please tell us what model fridge so we can look at one and consider what else may cause this.

Ice dispenser delivers only crushed ice.

Make sure the dispensor door flap is closing completely .
Remove the ice bin , close the door , set the display for cubed and press the dispensor pad . Do you hear a " clunk " sound ? If not , open the door and press on the light switch , and activate the pad again . On the back wall , next to the " forks " , is a square hole with a white plastic square . Does this plastic square raise up ? If not , remove the top freezer door hinge cover and disconnect the plug there ( this removes power to the dispensor ) , you will have to remove the 4 screws holding this panel , and determine if the solenoid is bad , wire came off , or plastic piece is broken . If the plastic piece does lift , then the problem is in the ice bin . Lift the long rod , and see if the flap moves , where the ice comes out . If not , you will have to determine why .

Frost inside the ice dispenser chute and the ice cube dispenser seems "stuck" on crush mode instead of dispensing full cubes.

The stuck on crush mode , is caused by ice frosted in front of the ice bin , blocking the ice bin flap from opening , when calling for cube ice . Removing the ice bin and cleaning or defrosting completely , will solve this problem , AFTER , resolving the frost in shoot problem .
Remove the top freezer door hinge cover , and disconnect the plug there . This removes any power , going to the door . If no plug there , remove the bottom kick plate , by removing the screw on each side in the front , and disconnect the receptical from the wires comming from the bottom of the freezer door .
Remove the dispensor control board , by prying , or pulling , from the bottom of the board . Disconnect the 3 plugs to the board . You should now see the white dispensor cover , being held on by 4 screws . Remove these screws , and slide the cover out .
In the top right , inside the dispensor area , you will see a solenoid with a plunger , with the door flap arc , inserted into the plunger . Usually rust inhibits the movement of the plunger , keeping the door flap from closing completely .
Remove the 3 screws holding the plunger and solenoid ( part number WR62X10055 ) and replace . Cleaning will not help , due to rust will return .

Ice is forming in the door dispenser, damming up in the ice dispenser and blocking ice from being dispensed. Model is ZFSB23D SS. I have taken the parts off of the freezer door several times to remove the...

It sounds like the dispensor flap is not closing . Can you look down the ice shoot , and see daylight ? If so , dispensor and plunger need to be replaced . Pt # WR62x10055 . Or , if crushed ice is used quite often , this too will cause the shoot to jam . Unfortunantly , only cure for this , is to use less crushed ice . Since you've taken parts off the door before , I wont go into , how to get to and replace the solenoid and plunger .

GE profile Artica side by side. I am getting a frost build up

Sounds like the dispensor flap is not closing completely , pulling outside air in . Using a flashlight on the outside of the flap , look inside to see if any light is visible . If so , then the ice flap plunger and solenoid will have to be replaced . Also , excessive crushed ice can also cause frosting .

Door ice dispensor will only dispense crushed ice

Pull out the ice drawer and close the door switch the crushed /cubed button put the ice drawer back in and switch the selector button again. You might have to repeat the process I had the problem this week and by jiggling everything around and running a good bit of ice thru it started working again. Good luck

Ice dispensor only dispensing crushed ice - not cubed

Make sure that your ice tray is properly instaled. There is a rod that must go into a hole. When you select ice cubes rather than crushed ice a solenoid raises which moves that rod. It then opens a flap so the cubes can bypass the crusher. Either your rod is not in the hole correctly or the solenoid has gone bad. The rod that I am speaking of runs along the underside of the ice tray. It has a spring on the rear end that holds the bypass flpa closed.

Ice dispenser freezes up in door outlet

look at the circular flap that covers the outlet of the ice, see that it seals correctly as it closes. if there is a damage on the flap or it is not sealing tightly then frost will accumulate on the door because fresh air are coming in the door flap. if it is damage, replace the door flap. if it is stucking up, loosen up the mechanism.
