I removed my old cd rom that came with the computer and put the new one in.when i put the cd in that came with the new cd rom it said installation was unsuccessful.i bought the hp dvd1270i

Usually the software that comes with a new dvd/cd burner is just burning software (nero or roxio).
Your drive is just plug and play and windows has all the drivers that is needed.
I would uninstall the software you installed and try it with free software like IMGburn or CDburnerXP

Just installed new HP dvd1270i. PC boots but

Check your power connector to the DVD Rom and also check the cables (Sata or IDE). If this doesn't bring any solution, scan your system using updated anti virus. Good luck.

Ever since I bought the HP DVD1270i DVD writer, I am getting a blue screen hardware warning when I shut down Windows 7. Does any one know if it is a firmware issue?

It is windows 7 issue. Windows 7 is having the same problem like windows vista. They are actually the same operating system, but Microsoft rename to windows 7. Try taking the burner out and to see if it loads up.

INstalled hp dvd1270i in my dell 4700. I have power but it doesn't recognize the drive. Does it matter if the old drive was a ribbon cable and the new one is sata?

Do you have the DVD daisy chained to the motherboard with another drive? I have the same Dell and I have 2 hard drives IDE, and a DVD with a CD burner which are seperate so they are on the other IDE connection daisy chained. The IDE controller will allow 2 devices and there are 2 IDE controllers on the motherboard. eMail me at [email protected] with more info and questions and I"ll try to help.

Hard drives replacement

Both hard drive and CD drive can be purchased from your local technology store. For example, Futureshop or BestBuy.

You're looking for an internal IDE cd drive, and an internal IDE (NOT SATA) 3.5" hard drive. Get a 7200RPM hard drive for better performance.

example hard drive:
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10035171&catid=10484

example cd drive. This is a cd/dvd read write combo drive:
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10087822&catid=

you don't need the cd. you just need the drivers. download them from HP's website.
