    When I power on my laptop, It starts and all of the lights come on. After that, the screen stays black and then the Laptop tries to restart again. It constantly goes through this process. You will here the hard drive trying to work and then two quiet beeps (not through the speaker). The Hard drive is good because I switched it out on to a friends computer. Can you help with this problem?

    my name is kevin and I have the same problem whith you, my hp pavillon go of after 5second when I puy it on.

    HP has extended the warranty to 2 yrs on these to deal with the problem.

    Call HP and when you are lucky enough to get someone you can understand, they will go thru a trouble-shooting procedure with you, and if this doesn't fix it ( it won't ! ) they with send you a box and packing materials and pre-paid shipping label to send it for service. Now waiting on return of my notebook. Estimated 10 to 14 days.

    Had my dv9000t for 14 months. It failed on startup, screen turned black, then did system dump, repeatedly. The recovery disc won't work, it had the same symptoms. Called HP support, the guy from India said it was the video card problem (256MB Nvidia GeForce Go 7600) and the repair cost would be $430.84. Is the problem really the video card? The HP support did not offer any assistance on repairing the Nvidia card. He hung up because I did not give him my credit card number.

  • bigskysparkl Feb 03, 2009

    I had the same problem...called HP & they said it was covered under the 'extended warranty', so they sent me a box and I sent my computer back to them. A few days later they called to tell me as soon as they opened it they saw evidence of water damage so they would not cover it under the warranty; the repair would cost me $900 and I had to give them a credit card number or they'd have to send it back to me unrepaired (total bs). I got it back, took it to have a new harddrive and motherboard installed. Now only 4 months later I'm starting to see similar problems to the last time this happened, and of course my repair is out of warranty. I've updated my bios, still my fan runs almost constantly, even with proper ventilation. Now, when it goes into hibernation, it will not come out. Instead, it powers on, fan runs, then powers off repeatedly. I will never by HP again...and it seems I may have to buy another laptop soon if I can't fix the problem b4 it gets to the same point as last time.

Had the same problems with my dv9205us in Feb 2008. Called HP and gave them the model and serial #s. There is a recall on certain models due to motherboard issues. The Fed-Exed a box with a return shipping label. Had the notebook back within a week at most with no cost to me at all. Give HP a call to see if you fall under the recall.

Dear All,

I have this HP DV9205US notebook for 18 months. Now it won't start. Here is a important document from HP. You can verify your notebook is cover by this recall or not.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01087277#identify

I call;
(800)474-6836 HP Total Care Worldwide
The guy told me that the recall is been cancel, he needs to charge me for the service;

I call;
(866)671-7362 HP Total Care North America
The girl told me that my notebook is under this recall and I still have 6 more months warranty. She will send me the free shipping label for the free repair service.

So, not all the people are bad. You just have to find the right one. Good Luck!

I contacted HP and after the warranty had expired, HP sent me a box with next day delivery and had it fixed. It has something to do with the bios board. They said that they overclocked the bios and it caused the mother board to over heat. They fixed the problem and sent it back to me at their expense. Now if you have the inept Microsoft windows Vista installed on your computer, you will have to reinstall everything on you computer. (HP will put you computer back to FACTORY SPECS) They are not responsible for any programs or information on your hard drive that you installed after you opened the box. Microsoft Windows Vista registers with the Mother Board in you computer to prevent people from pirating the program (as if anyone wants it any way). I hope you already have everything backed up and have all the install keys and program disks to get everything back into the computer after HP is done with it. This is why I will never do business with HP again, their problem created a hugh problem.

I have a dv9205us also. The factory had a recall for repoot problems. Under warranty there are keyboard adn boot up freeze problems due to mother board faults. I had to return twice to have mother board changed out then I upgraded to 2gig memory.

You can use a fast usb drive for memory using vista external drive boost facility. It will come on automaticaly and you can choose.

Make sure you are inwarranty but any way mother board faults were the problem for boot up. Freeze of programs and video failure on boot up. Also shutdown freeze due to not able to shut down programs. Be sure some program or utility is closing properly. Ther is a utility to insure programs do not stop other programs from running. Some programs demand that no other programs run. you can set most programs in utilitybut study it well.

that is my 10 cents.

    Is the computer still under warranty? You can you call HP for technical help.

    -OR -

    Have you tried hitting the "F8" key to reformat and reinstall(recovery)?

    Start hitting the "F8" key as soon as the computer starts, repeat hitting the key until the computer shuts down, or goes into the recovery mode.

    How long is the battery on a HP Pavilion dv9000 supposed to last?

    Laptop batteries will usually last from 1.5 to 5 hours, depending upon the demand, the battery and the use. Sound burns up a lot of juice as does the DVD player so if you're watching movies or playing games an hour is about right. You can purchase a better HP PAVILION DV9000 Battery with 12 cell , it will work longger.

    My wifes hp dv9000 laptop will boot up and go to the desktop, 30 sec. later it shuts off, then reboots. It started doing this after we used a hp recovery disk. Her computer crashed on her overnight and hp...

    You will need to do more trouble shooting. If you can, boot into safe mode and see if system reboots. If it does boot into the bios and see if it reboots there.

    If system reboots in all modes then you have a hardware problem and will need to be serviced. However if it does not reboot in the bios then there is a good chance that some part of your windows system is corrupted.

    HP Pavilion dv9205us.....my wireless stops working after I shut my computer down. I reinstall the drivers and it work for a while, then it justs stops.

    You can try reseating your wireless card...it's 2 screws after you remove the Memory cover on bottom. HP has issue on motherboards that can cause this and has extended warranty on this model and others to 2 years.

    I understand that your Notebook is not booting into windows.

    To isolate the issue please try to boot the Notebook in Safemode.

    Restart the Notebook and keep pressing F8 key and select Safe mode to boot.

    Please try to perform the following steps also

    = Power Drain =

    1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
    2. Remove the Battery.
    3. Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
    4. Reconnect the AC adapter and Battery.
    5. Turn on the Notebook power.

    If your Notebook is booting into Safemode. Then try to restore the Notebook to factory settings. Before restoring the Notebook backup your data.

    I hope this will work.
