Frost build up in the freezer and fridge is warm

I have a very similar problem and initially I thought it was the compressor. This seems to be it - does this mean I have to pay for a repair person or can I tackle this one myself?

That depends on your approach to the problem. If you can follow directions, I will help lead you safely through this. This is a Whirlpool Gold correct. I see inside the fresh food section and behind the controls is a part number 12868513 and is a control board. That part and the inside back wall of refrigerator panel we will need to have a look at the inside behind that panel. The round object is the compressor. Is it running continuously, or is it clicking on and off every 2 or 3 minutes? There also should be a fan beside compressor. Is it running? Also check Fan in freezer to see if it is running. Is there any frost build up on inside back freezer wall? If fans are working and compressor is running continuously and there is no frost buildup in freezer, then you most likely have a sealed system problem meaning its low on freon or there is a blockage in system.

That's too long a period, for a normal. defrost system failure.
You'll have to wait until it quits, then remove the rear panel and look for ice (not frost) building up somewhere in the freezer compartment.
I have solved similar problems on this model, by replacing the defrost thermostat with a GE 60 degree thermostat, and a WR9X330 GE 6 hour defrost timer to get this model to defrost completely.

It's also possible that the refrigerant charge is slightly low, causing the defrost thermostat not to reach a cold enough temperature to perform a good defrost cycle. (building ice over a long period of time).

Make sure Freon 12 was used when replacing the compressor.
Some substitutes caused the evaporator coil to act as if it was
slightly low on charge.

Our LG GR359SQ Fridge Freezer, the fridge has stopped cooling. Everything else seems to still work, freezer, lights etc. But the fridge is warm. Any thoughts?

Make sure the the evaporator fan is running and circulation is getting to the fridge side. Remove anything that could be blocking the vent that brings in the air from the freezer to the fridge. Make sure that no frost is building up in the back of the freezer. If there is frost, then the timer can be going bad.

Kenmore fridge

First we need to see if the compressor is running. Pull the fridge out take off the lower panel on the back and see if you can hear it running. Also, need to know if freezer fan and fan by compressor is running. Check for thick frost build up on back panel in freezer. Let me know what you find.
