First we need to see if the compressor is running.  Pull the fridge out take off the lower panel on the back and see if you can hear it running.  Also, need to know if freezer fan and fan by compressor is running.  Check for thick frost build up on back panel in freezer.  Let me know what you find.

I have a LG fridge model GR-P247STSL and the ice maker is not working. The plastic arm that determines whether the ice bucket needs replenishing is not coming down. Do you know why?

*Check your warranty. You should call vendor for service.
*** The following is for information only.**
* I've had this problem a lot with my old fridge. Water line works but no ice.
* Check if the "Ice Full" leaver is in the down (no ice) position. Some ice makers will lock the leaver (a stiff wire) in the full position to manually shut off ice maker. Make sure it swings up and down when ice tray is empty.
* Sometimes when the tray is left full of ice for a week or more then the tube feeding water will freeze up. Defrosting the freezer on a regular basis will help. A quick fix is to pour warm water in the ice maker section (where the ice is formed). This will help melt the clogged pipe and also make some ice while your waiting. You may have to do this several times. But at least you have ice.
* This (freezing up) may also be caused by the freezer set too cold. The temperature dial should be in the middle. But turning it colder and colder over time will cause ice to build up and prevent foods from freezing properly (thus turning the dial down colder.) Once your maxed out on the dial. You will find the freezer gets warm and things get covered in frost crystals.
* Transfer food to another refrigerator and perform a complete defrost by leaving it unplugged and the door open (freezer section).
* Frequently check and dump water at bottom of fridge. Clean the dust on coils while down there.
* A fan blowing into the freezer section helps. (Do NOT use a heated fan as it will warp the plastic and overpressure the refrigerate.)
* Once defrosted (+4 hours). Power up the freezer and set the temperature dial to mid point and the freezer diverter to middle or normal setting. Don't put the food back in yet. Wait till the freezer gets down to normal freeze temp (about 0 to 10F)
* Move freezer back in place (if you moved it to access plug) then slowly put back the food. Try not to cram stuff in. Leave space for air to flow freely around items.
* Final, Call for service anyway and have them perform yearly service. Check your warranty.

The light inside the freezer compartment on the ice maker control is flashing red.

Hi Greg.

I'll have to stay general in answers since I don't know your particular make/model. Lights on the ice maker/cold water dispenser can indicate clogs, blockage, jams, or other things awry. A few things to consider:
  1. If the fridge has it's own water filter, has it been replaced anytime recently? If the filter is clogged, it may not be letting enough water flow through for the ice maker to think it's working properly.
  2. Chilled water is usually created by having a mondo coil of plastic tubing under the vegetable bin on the fridge side. It keeps half a gallon or so of water chilling as you get drinks, or as the ice maker draws on it (less heat in the freezer to start off with that way). That tubing also can get pretty rank, especially if the fridge has ever sat unused/unplugged for an extended period of time.
  3. You may have a jam or issue with the ice maker or ice delivery system. Ice delivery is usually a spiral piece of metal that extends to the back of the freezer compartment, comes out with the ice bin, and spins to feed ice to the dispenser. If it got wet and then froze, the bearing/bushing on it may be frozen, and triggering an alarm that the motor is having to work too hard to turn it (or giving up). pull the ice tray and make sure you can spin the shaft. if not, transfer the ice elsewhere and either let the bin come to room temp to melt the ice jam, or, if you're impatient, run warm water through it until it frees up. Make sure you dry it thoroughly before putting it back in the freezer, regardless of how you do that.
  4. The freezer could be over-temperature. You may want to look at the freezer thermostat setting, and whether it's getting there (you'll need a fridge thermometer to check). If it's way off, you may need to get the thermostat fixed.
  5. If there is an ice crusher, a jam there might also be the cause of the light. Harder to disengage than the ice bin probably, the particulars of checking it will depend on the model.

I hope this gives you some useful ways to diagnose the issue!

Frigidaire frs26h5asb5

Hi Gary,

If your evaporator is not completely frosting over (top to bottom) this normally means the unit doesn't have a proper charge or the compressor can't pump all the freon as it needs to. I would check the charge, this should read "0", if less not enough, if higher than the compressor is failing. I hope this helps.

I’m happy to help further over the phone at

GE 17.2 freezer on top fridge on bottom. Freezer is cold, but fridge is warm. Help!

Is there any frost buildup on the rear panel inside the freezer? If so you have a defrost problem of a bad defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or defrost timer/ control board. If no frost then you probably have a clogged defrost drain. Remove the rear panel to access drain hole.

My fridgedaire side by side freezer's condensor is freezing over and warming the fridge side, I defrosted it the fridge side is keep cool enough to keep food but the freezer side will not get cold to...

Hello, This is a type of faulty you can handle yourself, most times this is a bad cold control, but there are other things to check for. Make sure the condenser fan is working and the coils are not covered with dust. A separated heat exchanger ( small capillary tubing soldered to the large suction line ) can separate from one another and make the fridge run too long. - tape tubing back together. A poor working evaporator fan motor could also make the fridge run too long and freeze - replace the fan motor. An inefficient compressor or refrigeration system could make the fridge run too long and freeze - have a service tech check this out. A misaligned control settings, make sure the air damper and cold control have not been bumped and are out of normal settings. Stuck open air diffusers or air dampers are becoming more and more common for allowing too much air to be blown into the fresh food section and freezing things. On all frost free fridge's the freezer temp air is blown into the fresh food section, if you have "easy" to freeze items ( eggs, veggies in water, etc ) in front of or under where the freezer temp air comes out, they could freeze - store them in a different spot. Doors not closing properly making the fridge run too long is something else to check for.
I hope this will help in solving the fault.....

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

Red light blinking inside freezer compartment of Kenmor Elite, model 106 52603100. Ice maker has quit working. Is this blinking light a code?

The light may be telling you that the temperature is not cold enough to operate the icemaker.
You may have a bad defrost timer, heater or thermostat. If you have an ice bucket then it may ot be seated properly.
