SOURCE: cpu fan failure message when booting

Be sure to get the correct size if replacing only the fan. I tried finding one myself a couple months ago with no luck at the local electronic stores so replaced the heatsink/fan combination.

Here are some listed at Google Shopping to order online but my local Best Buy, Circuit City and other electronic stores did not have any.

SOURCE: CPU fan failure causes system

Without a proper working cpu fan the cpu will overheat and shut the computer down... if not fry the cpu. You will need to replace the cpu fan and hope the overheating didn't mess up the cpu or something on the motherboard.

Did you accidentally knock the fans little power plug out of its connection to the motherboard?

Restarting always

Yhe main reason why a system will restart:

1. The system halted due to overheat
2. There was a serious system error cpu/memory
3. Power faliure
4. defective motherboard.

Things to try, Take the fan off the cpu put some thermal paste on it, if there was thermal paste before make sure you wipe that off before reapplying new.

allot of times due to heat and thermal paste seal failure these issues happend and there very damaging to a cpu.

Please try the above steps any questions please retun and ask we have wonderful expert here to help you. Please do conclude by rating all the epxerts that are involved with your issue, Thanks

I have a Lenovo A61 Thinkcentre that is about one year old. I am now hearing a fairly loud noise that comes and goes. When the system starts, the noise appears and lasts 10 - 20 minutes, then disappears....

Ok it still sounds like an fan. look for fans, one in power supply, one on cpu, one in case(frount or back), one on video card. before you start from cold unplug the fans that you can. and stop the one in power supply. then if there is no nosie you have to start pluging them back in till you hear the noise. **NOTE!!** don't run it long without fans!!( 40 secs) is long enough..

Cpu fan failure message when booting

Sad to say but this model dell uses a specific fan made for dell. Unless you want to modify your cpu cooling system you will need to contact dell for a system specific replacement part. Hope this helps.

Boot

sounds like hard disk faliure, suggest getting a new hard disk or perhaps attempt a system reinstall. Its not the fan but the hard disk.
