I can't seem to log in to yahoomail i had no problem yesterday, but today yahoo tells me the address i used is unassigned?

That is very strange. I would double check all your login details are correct, such as what case the lettering may be in. If that doesn't help the only thing I can suggest is contact yahoo.

According to http://downrightnow.com/yahoomail there are a high number of users reporting issues today. It seems that Yahoo! Mail is experiencing some issues. Most likely it will be fixed soon. If other websites are running fine for you, this is a (temporary) Yahoo! problem.

1. Try using a different browser and see if it is still doing it (FireFox, Chrome, Safari, etc)
2. Make sure your browser is set to except cookies
3. Make sure your clock on your computer is correct and set on the correct region/time/date

If you registered for a Yahoo! account with either a ymail or rocketmail email address, be sure to include @ymail or @rocketmail when you sign in to your Yahoo! account. Your Yahoo! ID is your full email address.

If you registered using a ymail email address, sign in to Yahoo! by typing your complete username/email address: [email protected].

Likewise, if you have a rocketmail email address, log in to Yahoo! by typing your complete username/email address: [email protected].

write these into your address tab and type enter "www.mail.yahoo.com"
then type in your "user name" and "password" in small letters and press "log in"

Try it now.

I have found that sometimes I can't log in then try an hour or so later and get in first time.
IF it keeps up, email [email protected] with the FULL details of your account and tell them what error messages you get.

yahoo server is down today... try after sometime..... even i had the same problem... and it seems to be ok now

First open yahoo.com, not yahoomail.com
then login in using your account.

the click on mail. it will ask you for beta version or classic.
use classic version.
