When I hooked up the monitor to the computer (just bought the U2414H monitor and XPS 8700) the monitor gives a text "error message" No displayport cable message. After taking with Dell Tech Support they asked me to switch the default settings from 1.1 to 1.2. When I went to the OSD menu all it shows is Input menu, not the full menu. So now I am stuck and can't change the default setting from 1.1 to 1.2
Push the menu use the plus and minus to change between settings.

no drivers are needed for monitor. Its the video card drivers that you should look for at the dell drivers and downloads website. make sure that you have the right driver installed so that you may be increase your screen resolution. You may also use your Dell Resource CD Drivers and utilities. Install the Resource cd, On the TOPICS dropdown box, select drivers,You'll know which drivers needs to be installed because they will have a check mark infront of the correct device driver. Clicke extract button after you have chosen the video driver. You may need to scroll down.Restart the computer.

Next thing I would check is the VGA cable between PC and monitor.
Make sure is in at both ends and if possible try another one.
Do the Dell Menus come up with no VGA cable plugged in? Is the light amber? Flashing or static?

sounds like a video card problem in your pc. If you are using the onboard video output on your motherboard, you probably need a new one. If you are using a card that has been added to the board in a slot, try your onboard output (looks the same)

You need to set your PC video resolution to this monitor resolution, which is 1920x1080@60hz. You can do it by bootup in safe mode (hit f8 key while booting up), then select boot with VGA, once bootup, set the new resolution 1920x1080@60hz or something lower such as 1280x768 for now, reboot in regular mode, and reset resolution to 1920x1080@60hz. You may have to install driver if the 1920x1080@60hz does not show up in the list.

Hi Ron,
It sounds like the monitor is not receiving a signal, or that the signal is one that it can't display (wrong screen resolution etc).
Can you make sure the monitor cable is securely plugged in at the monitor and the PC?
Do you have another PC you can try with that monitor?
Do you have an spare monitor cable you can try?
Is this the only monitor connected to your PC or are you using is as a second monitor?
I'm happy to try and help you solve this.
Kind regards,
Chris
