We have 60" hitachi plasma and when we turn it on we get no picture and sound for about 5 seconds then nothing and the green light starts flashing???? we have had the tv for thirteen months. help

This happens when an internal fault is detected.
Start leaving the TV unplugged overnight. This will drain power discharging capacitor and internal circuits, and sometimes can solve minor problems.
If the TV still does not start , it must be taken apart and tested.
Parts that commonly fail are the PSU, controller board, low buffer and sustain boards.
If the TV is only 13 months old, then it is worth calling Hitachi and asking for a warranty extension or a discounted repair.

It's most likely the smps. You'll first need to check voltages at CN63, pin #1-(+5v), 3-(+3.3v) and pin 8-(+6v) Also check CNPPS, pin 1-(+30v), 4-(+5v), 8-(+12v), 12-(+10v) absent these values and the power supply is clearly the problem.
the more the tv remains on the picture gets out of focus mainly in the midle of screen. Sure sounds like tv needs some light engine repair or replacement.
I have had this problem in some models of plasma sets before. In most cases the power supply and main drive boards had to be replaced. In a small number of cases the failure was the screen itself.
In all cases, the cost of the repair was expensive. For the screen failure, the set was scrapped.
I've had the same issue although I don't unplug everything. I turn it off and then unplug it from the wall for 10 seconds then plug it back in. Seems ok after that. Has happened 4 or 5 times over the 10 years I've owned it.
I had the same exact problem.
I removed the bulb and cleaned it. There is a small screen at the top of the bulb and it was covered with dust. Once it was cleaned I replaced the bulb and it solved the problem.
