Cant get DVD's to play

I have purchased a new 24X DVD/CD/R/RW mudule for my Latitide C600 laptop. I am running windows 2000 professional. I have downloaded DVD player software and also downloaded new driver updates. It recognises and plays CD's and also recognises CD-Rom's with file data, but will not play DVD's. Keeps asking for a disk to be inserted, when there is a DVD disk already intalled in the module. Any suggestions as to how I fix this?

Try cleaning off the laser of the dvd drive with a damp q-tip. This will make sure there is no specs of dust or dirt on the laser.

If it sill plays cd's but not dvd's then that means the laser is bad cause it takes more power from the laser to read dvds cause there is more information that needs to be verfied.

So if the laser is bad that means the drive you bought was defective. Try a bunch of different dvds to be sure you don't have any that are bad.

If your getting it with any dvd your putting in there then you know you need to get another drive.

This model of computer does not have a blu-ray drive unless you got a third party upgrade. In this case, you will need to track down special drivers, which can best be done by whomever sold you the drive.

I have acer aspire 4520.I have upgraded to windows xp sp2. The empowering technology does not work.It says " the specified file is not found".I cannot find the empowering technology software...

Surely to load XP is a DownGrade. As this notebook is dual core, I would run Vista 64 or better still Windows 7 64.
If you wish to persist with an old system, you require SP3 for XP.That may be available from a software store but is no longer supported by Windows.
Try http://www.notebook-driver.com/laptops-information/acer-aspire-4520-notebook-technical-specifications/ for drivers that you will require to have support from Acer.

Hope that clarifies your situation.

Toshiba satellite p205ds7454, pioner dvd-rw dvr-k17lf ata device

If you are asking for the information regarding the ODD here it is: DVD SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) with Labelflash? drive supporting 11 formats * Maximum speed and compatibility: CD-ROM (24x), CD-R (24x), CD-RW (4x), DVD-ROM (8x), DVD-R (Single Layer, (8x)), DVDR (Double Layer, (4x)), DVD-RW (4x), DVD+R (Single Layer, (8x)), DVD+R (Double Layer, (4x)), DVD+RW (4x), DVD-RAM (5x) * Supports Labelflash? media to burn high quality labels directly on the disk. If not ( Cant read CD or DVD ) then most likely the lens on the ODD is already busted. or ODD cant be detected then just go to the Website support.toshiba.com and download the latest update for the ODD. And install the driver on your NB and restart the NB. If still the same then the ODD you have is already busted what you need to do is to buy a new ODD.

Dics Drive Upgrade for Toshiba Satillate.

As far as i know thats impossible. Your optical diskdrive is made just for those speeds that you have on it. You cant change the manufacture settings and speed it upp, or make it to an dual layer disk.
Buy a new one whit the needs that u want and replace the old one. Its easy done and its not that expensive.

Good luck to you
