My husqvarna 435 clutch cover came off while cutting, chain wont spin freely when re assembled

I was about 20 mins into using my new chainsaw, and the whole thing came apart, I re assembled it, but the brake doesn't seem to want to sit on the drum properly, even though I double checked and the brake is not engaged, and it seems that when I finally get it to sit on there properly the chain wont spin by hand freely, even when I loosen the bar.. im assuming that when it fell apart all there should have been was the cover bar chain and the nut to put cover on.. did I loose something else?

actually i took bar and schain off and tried to re asseble it, the cover doesnt want to sit on there properly, it basically gives me the option to have it sit over the drum properly or lock the + into to brake handle @ the top, one or the other..

That should be all that was there. If it's a fairly new saw, it could just fit tight. Not that I recommend this, but leave the nuts 1/2 loose. I had to get my chain moving using a pair of welding gloves and pulling it around the bar. The whole thing seated properly & I finished tightening it up. the brake fits tight but you don't want to lubricate it or it won't function properly when you need it. Also be sure the brake ISN'T engaged when you reassemble and when you're finished. Hope this helps.

You will need to release the brake by applying a very heavy screwdriver to the + shaped part of the brake coupling. Check the action of the brake handle and duplicate it at the the +. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Bar bolt on Husqvarna 142e spins.

Go to Searspartsdirect.com and enter the complete Sears model number minus the decimal point. That should bring you to a series of replaceable parts diagrams plus part numbers. If the bolt is not listed as a separate part, then likely it is part of the fuel tank assembly. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: My Husqvarna 435 clutch cover came off - can't get it back on.

You need to load the brake, this is not so easy now it is off the saw, however, there are a few ways to do it, clamp the cover in a vice, be carefull not to damage the cover, now use a suitable spanner to engage into the the three legged actuating ( where the hand guard normally sits ) and twist, it will take some force as you are compressing the inner spring, or you cane remove the hand guard from the saw and use this as a tool to load it, or you can remove the sprocket and clutch, the brake will then sit back onto the saw and can be loaded.

Change chain

Loosen and remove bar lock nuts and cover. screw tensioning screw to loosest point. wrap chain onto teeth of drive sprocket, then within grooves on bar. Be certain cutting edges are facing forward. Look at chain before removing. set bar with new chain to ensure the tension pin aligns with bar tensioning hole. Replace cover set nuts loosely. Tighten chain to about 1/4" out of groove when pulled on (wear gloves). Tighten nuts, spin chain to see it moves freely but does not hang free og bar groove. re-tension as necessary. Happy cutting!

HUSQVARNA MODEL 435 CHAIN SAW.....BRAND NEW IN JUNE...NEVER USED....WITH BLADE, CHAIN, AND SIDE COVER (TENSIONER ASSY) REMOVED, IT RUNS FINE......WHEN CHAIN BAR , CHAIN, AND COVER ARE REINSTALLED AND...

There is a number of ways to re load the brake, you can either remove the clutch and sprocket, the brake will then go back onto the saw enabling you to use the hand guard on the saw to load the brake ( to remove the clutch, there are two cut a ways in the clutch centre designed to enter a flat screw driver into, then strike with a suitable hammer to remove, it is a left hand thread ) or you can remove the hand guard from the saw and use this as a tool to re load the brake, or you can clamp the cover in a vice ( be carefull not to damage the cover ) then use a strudy pair of pliers or grips in the three legged loading mechanism and turn it to load the brake.

Chain will not rotate; which part needs to be replaced?

Try to turn the chain by hand--if moves freely, the clutch assembly under the cover may be overly oiled. Remove the bar and chain, then wash the clutch drum and shoes with carburetor spray cleaner. Make sure the chain brake is not set. Hope this helps!

Chainsaw clutch/chain break cover installationis a pain in the neck...

First make sure it is clean and be sure the brake is disengaged. If the problem is getting the bar/chain lined up while trying to install the cover set up some blocks like 4X4s to keep the bar in line as you assemble the cover while the saw is on it's side.

Chain spins when not cutting

Sounds like a clutch issue but if the chain is spinning once you start the unit you'll need to do some adjusting to your carb.

Bar oiling problem

Just a thought: Is it cold where you are? At this saw mill where it is my job to keep chain saws running, learned years ago that you cannot use "bar oil" in winter. Need thinner oil, like motor oil. ....preferably a "non-detergent" motor oil, plain 30-weight is OK, HD30W will work, but the HD part causes the chain to stretch more so than standard bar oil. The bar oil literally is so thick in cold that it stripped the worm gear out of a Poulan Pro oil pump (plastic gear, anyways, wasn't much to begin with.) But thought you may want to try thinner oil, if it is cold where you are. Oh yea we also have 2-Husqvarna 359's with 20-inch bar, and use thinner oil in winter. Our Husqvarnas have an oil adjuster located on bottom, on clutch side. Straight slot screw adjustment.
