Maytags of this style usually wear out blower wheels which moves the air through the unit, check the blower wheel see if you can move it without turning the drum, This is of course with the front panel off, The blower wheel is item #4 in the diagram and it's locate just behind the front panel.

It's very likely that your heating element is shorted and will need to be replaced. Unplug the dryer and remove the lower front panel. There are 2 spring clips between the upper front panel and the lower front panel. Use a flat screwdriver and slide it over these clips and then pry these clips down to unclip them so that you can hinge the bottom panel down and then off. The heating element is in the bottom right corner inside the silver heating canister. There is one screw coming in from the left holding the element inside the canister. Remove the screw and remove the front panel of the heating canister. Disconnect the wires to the element and then the element will pull straight out. Here is a link to the part.

I don't have a repair manual for White Westinghouse dryer. Need to replace heating element. Not sure how to get to the element

Instructions
    • Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet before servicing the Westinghouse dryer.

    • Insert the putty knife into the gap above the front panel and below the top panel. Lift the putty knife handle up to unfasten the internal locking clips.

    • Lift the top panel from the dryer cabinet. Rest the panel on the wall behind the dryer.

    • Remove the two screws on the top border of the front panel. Lift the front panel straight up to unhook it from the dryer cabinet. Unplug the connector leading into the front panel. Set the front panel aside.

    • Move the idler pulley arm toward the front of the dryer cabinet to loosen the belt. Remove the belt from the drum and pulleys.

    • Lift the drum out of the dryer cabinet.

    • Disconnect the electrical plugs leading into the heating element. Unfasten the screws securing the element to the inside of the cabinet. Lift the element out of the cabinet.

    • Place the new heating element inside the dryer. Connect the screws holding the element to the cabinet. Plug the electrical connectors into the element.

    • Reposition the front panel. Plug the door switch connector into its socket on the front panel. Press the panel straight down into the base. Reinstall the screws along the top of the panel.

Does not heat

Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya
There are a few reasons why this is happening i have listed the most common items to check listed below
1st is the heating element this is the most common thing that fails
The heating elements are a common problem with dryers not heating and are an easy do-it-yourself repair. On the Newton style dryers, the heating element is located under the tub on the right in a round heater-can. To access it, first remove the front panel by removing the two screws on each side at the bottom of the front panel or if it's a newer model, prize the clips under the front panel. Then pull out the bottom of the front panel until the top clips release. This should release the top so that you can lift it up. Once up, you should see the heater at the back. Checking the heating element is the same for both styles. First disconnect power from dryer then unplug the wires going to the heating element. Next using your ohmmeter , check to see if you have continuity between the terminals on the heating element.
If you don't,have continuity the heating element is bad and needs replacing, if there is continuity the heating element is ok.

How do i change the heating element.

The heating element is accessible through the lower front access panel. Disconnect power to the dryer prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.

Remove the two screws attaching the bottom of the lower front access panel to the cabinet then slide the panel down then off the cabinet. The heating element can now be accessed and repalced.

Remove the screws securing the heating element to the heater box then pull down the heating element to remove it from the heater box.

Disconnect and label the wires for the heating element and the components. Remove the components from the old heating element then transfer it to the new heating element.

Slide the new heating element up into the heater box and secure it in place. Align the slots on the top of the lower front access panel with the locating tabs on the front access panel then slide it into position and secure the bottom of the lower front access panel to the cabinet.

No heat

there's no fuses on the unit. the cord connects to the control panel, the motor and the gas controller. you may need to remove the door and some screws holding the front panel in place. the panel will come forward and there may be some wires to disconnect for the light. the panel bottom has two tangs and notches they fit into. on the right bottom is the burner - check to see if anything is loose in the burner tube. maybe there's some loose change inside the drum or the blower housing. check the klixon thermostats on the burner and blower housing. the flame sensor may be loose
