Service manual While printing the machine makes a gear grinding sound. It prints ok but sounds like it is going to self-destruct. Perhaps some gears are not meshing properly? How would I fix the problem?

Any time I hear that complaint I cringe. Not because of the noise but what it might be telling me. I usually hear that noise as the hot roller bushings &/or the main gear that drives the fuser is cracking or already cracked and is ready to fail. This causes the roller to bind up hence, the grinding noise. Sometimes a drum can seize and that will also make that sound but if you're able to print OK that is probably not the issue.

SOURCE: Printer makes noise while cleaning heads

Grinding noise is most likely caused by the carriage lock getting stuck and holding the print head at the home position. The noise is caused by the toothed belt that pulls the head back and forth, skipping over the splines on the motor drive wheel. If you have been able to print since the problem occurred, chances are that it has freed itself up and will be fine. Regarding the loss of cyan & magenta output, follow the solution given in my previous posts to complete a manual under-head cleaning cycle. This should get you going. SOURCE: noisey vibration

Dear Rab,

Hope this solves your problem. I understand that you are having problem only on the reversei side tractor feed problem. We have encountered same problem even in different models and brands. Please check the Lever Paper Fed Selector is engaged well, so that the gears give less space clearance to each other. Please check the tractor tray is locked tightly both ends. Please check if the grease on the paper tray and contacting gears are not dried up. Please check also the paper path if there are remains or clogged parts of paper perforation holes. Finally check the flatten (stainless still or hard plastic) paper against the roller if not to tight. You can check manually by turning the paper roller knobs back and forth. But take NOTE: Turn Off the power in doing so, it may destroy the knob. Have a nice day.

Best regards,
Rosener Guyano

SOURCE: my printer, makes a grinding noise, when the paper is feeding through when printinig?

Look to make sure that there isn't a small bit of paper caught in the wheels that push the paper through. Over time, even a small bit in the corner can destroy your printer.

unless the head come to a halt during initialization process, upon turning on your printer there is no way you will be able to print, please check for any obstruction on the printer head, the grinding sound is an indicator that the head is trying to reach its position and was having trouble. or it could be a damaged belt that you need to replaced

SOURCE: Paper Jam...grinding noise

The print head lock is probably not retracting. Look for the white plastic block that pokes through from the paper feed side just in front of the head. Push it in with your finger and move the head to the middle by hand. Now turn the machine on. Then turn it off using the correct method. Then turn it on once more. If it starts grinding again, you screwed the feed mechanism when tugged out the jammed paper (probably pulled it backward through the feed instead of making it go forward and out the correct exit). If this is the case, you may as well bin it. If it in warranty, you can try to get a claim for repair.

My CanonPC940 won't grab paper and push it through to print-also makes a a loud "grinding" noise. How can I fix this?

Sounds like a tire may have slid off of a wheel. Yes they have wheels. Also paper soaks up water like a sponge always keep your paper in the wrapper it comes in and the top side of the paper is where the seam is. Make sure you put the paper in so that the top side is the side going through the machine. I do how ever believe you have a wheel or gear out of place.

My HP LaserJet 4L printer just makes a grinding sound-won't print

That printer has a gear on the motor that cracks. You can fix it with a new or used motor. Or get a different machine on craigslist. Thank you, Steven 805-520-3003

Make grinding noise

If you will notice that there is a transparent film that the printhead goes through to be able to print. That transpatent film is actually coded to be able to tell the print head in which direction and when to print characters. It is dirty and you need to take like a q-tip with isopropyl alcohol to clean it so it knows where to print and does not go back and forth to find a position to print. God bless you.

Canon PIXMA 530 grinds away

I had a persistant grinding noise about 30 seconds after the printer finished printing. It's been going on about 2 months. I did one thing which seemed to work. So try opening the cover on the back of the machine by lifting upward on the gray lever in the middle of the back of the machine. Leave this cover open during and after printing. The grinding noise went away.

Makes loud sounds

I had the same problem with the loud grinding sound. The gears on the cartridge(s) is not turning but rather stripping creating a grinding sound. Reinstall all of the toner cartridges. If that doesn't work, pull each cartridge out and manually turn the gear on the cartridge. If the problem persists, you may need to purchase a new toner cartridge.

Gears grinding with Brother Intellifax 4100

Does it only make the noise when printing. Do you hear the noise when sending out faxes? I have heard grinding noises onlt when using poor quality toner refills, or the fuser gear and or drive gear asm is stripped. First try a known good OEM toner.
