While using the microwave it all of a sudden started making audible sounds and the display would just go crazy, then a lock would show up in the display locking the oven out. This is most often caused by a bad magnetron "scrambling" the controller, a bad connection on the controller, or a controller failure. Try to use the "timer" function of the oven. Make it count down without cooking for about a minute. If it works, then it's more likely to be a bad magnetron. If it still fails, it's probably a problem on the controller. We repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 in most cases. For more information see our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Whirlpool mircowave model MH3184XP the display reads F2

There is a problem with the control pad. The membrane, or surface, of the pad may be broken or damaged somewhere, resulting in the F2 error code. This is common for Whirlpool microwaves.

Press "Stop/Cancel" twice and select a new cook program. Press "Start" to begin.

If the error code persists, press "Stop/Cancel" again and unplug the microwave. Wait several minutes and plug it in. If the F2 code appears again, it requires repair.

Replacement membranes can be found online

but the internals of a microwave are dangerous, having high voltages even when unplugged. With the cost of parts and labour from a service tech, you may be best buying a new oven.

Does not heat up food everything else is OK i think that the rack touch the door when i was using it

Double check and make sure that the rack did't scratch the paint inside the cavity. Could be two possible reasons for it not to heat. Could possible be the magnetron or the diode. Normal when the magnetron goes bad, the microwave will still sound almost normal, bit just wouldn't heat. when the diode goes bad the microwave tends to make a humming sound when turned on

Whirlpool MH3184XP Microwave Turns On, Heats, but sounds like fans not working. 4 years old, fans worked fine until they seem not as loud anymore. The magnetron is working fine as it heats (did the 1 cup...

Suggest you pull the plug out, remove outer cover and place a cup of water into the micro. Set power to minimum then switch on and take note if the fan works or not. If not, switch off immediately and have it replaced(magnatron will burn out if left to run without fan.)

Serial trr4315895 microwave md. mh3184xpq-o fan runs all time quit heating, smell smoke

your magnatron or magneto depending on model, has given up the ghost. The repair cost is almost as high as replacement.

Sorry

Microwave turning on by itself

Sounds like a relay is stuck/activated by something. Causes are power surges, mice shorting wires, spiders and such creating bridges across the contacts on the circuit board. Not a DIY project unless you have some electronics background and know what precautions to take while inside the case. There is enough juice in there to seriously injure or kill a person. Eric

Humming sound when off

I also have the same microwave model and with the same problem. It is not quite 2 years old. I have a service call scheduled but did e-mail customer service at Whirlpool to inform them of this. Sounds like it could be defective model and a fire hazard. You should also inform them of yours.

Whirlpool microwavewave hood comination mh3184xp

My Whirlpool MH3184xps is shooting a spark when in use with the rack. When the rack is removed the oven works fine. I am guessing that some of the coating on the rack has cracked and peeled and is exposing some aluminum. Has anyone else had this problem?
