Whirlpool MH3184XP-B 2 Black- Will not start, no power, no display

The microwave is about a year and a half old, and just stopped working out of nowhere. We werent using it, but just noticed the time was missing. Its not the outlet, check the breakers, and pluged a light into the outlet and all was well. SO i pluged the microwave into 3 different outlets, and NOTHING. I replaced the fuse in the upper right coner of the microwave under the panel (not the control panel), and still nothing. Please help, and sugestions would be great or things to look for, pics would be awsome if there is a link. thanks.

We also bought a wirlpool microwave about 11/2 years ago and our microwave did the same thing. It went on the blink. We checked the breakers, put a new fuse in the right hand corner of the microve, and still nothing. We also did not recieve any wiring diagram when we bought it.

Checked breaker, power is good. Checked fuse inside unit in upper right corner, it's good. Neutral inside unit is fed through a high limit switch, it's good. Checked and had 120 volts between the bottom of the fuse (hot) and the secondary side of the high limit (neutral) and had 120 volts. I do not have a wiring diagram so I cannot troubleshoot further. Any suggestion?

SAME PROBLEM, SECOND INLINE MINI FUSE APPEARS TO BE FINE ALSO. STILL NOTHING

I have the MH-3184XPB-0. No power even after checking another outlet sources, changed the 250v fuse above the control panel and is still completely dead. Should I buy another microwave or is there still a fix out there?

I have the MH3184XPB-0. Changed the fuse over the control panel and still completely dead. No switch tripped at circuit breaker and another outlet was verified as ok. Should I just buy another microwave or is there still a fix out there?

Downstream of the main 20 amp breaker in the upper right hand corner, is a miniture 4 amp fuse in an inline fuseholder. I replaced this and so far, so good

I have the same problem. A repairman came to look at it and said it was the dc filter. He would not fix it, however, and sugested I replace the unit. I will not buy any whirlpool product after reading how many people also have the same type of problem. Hope this helps.

Whirlpool mircowave model MH3184XP the display reads F2

There is a problem with the control pad. The membrane, or surface, of the pad may be broken or damaged somewhere, resulting in the F2 error code. This is common for Whirlpool microwaves.

Press "Stop/Cancel" twice and select a new cook program. Press "Start" to begin.

If the error code persists, press "Stop/Cancel" again and unplug the microwave. Wait several minutes and plug it in. If the F2 code appears again, it requires repair.

Replacement membranes can be found online

but the internals of a microwave are dangerous, having high voltages even when unplugged. With the cost of parts and labour from a service tech, you may be best buying a new oven.

How do I fix the programmed buttons 1 - 5, they stopped working? We can only use the 6 and above numbers.

You must dismantle the circuit board and check if some grease vapours between touch buttons and the the circuit film. Clean with some wet soft cloth.

My microwave is about 1 and a half years old and it feels like it is not heating things as well as it used to. What could be the problem?

If you measure the temperature of 1/2 litre of tap water. Place it in the oven and heat on full power for 1 minute.
Take it out and measure the temperature again. If the difference is 10 degrees Celcius or more difference the magnetron is healthy if not, it is low emmission and must be treated as a lower output machine.

Whirlpool MH3184XP Microwave Turns On, Heats, but sounds like fans not working. 4 years old, fans worked fine until they seem not as loud anymore. The magnetron is working fine as it heats (did the 1 cup...

Suggest you pull the plug out, remove outer cover and place a cup of water into the micro. Set power to minimum then switch on and take note if the fan works or not. If not, switch off immediately and have it replaced(magnatron will burn out if left to run without fan.)

Microwave just stopped as if i popped a breaker. Unplugged it for a day and plugged it back in but its dead. Not even a twinkle from the display. Tested the outlet and its good.

In all likelihood the mangnetron has failed, or perhaps even the Power Supply. You need to have it serviced by a reputable service centre/man. Ensure you get a firm "Quote" before proceeding, and remember these days the cost of repair can equal or exceed the price of a new one.

My Whirlpool MH3184XPY is 2 1/2 years old. On

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again. If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.

If it still fails, it may be one of three fuses or three oven cavity thermostats in the unit.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

d:%5cele%5crepair%5cmicrowave%5cge_hotpoint%5cmini_manual_behind_grille_small.jpgAt our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you can download it here.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from
the tag on the oven
here.

Accessing some components (especially the oven cavity thermostat) for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall and take off the outer cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download Whirlpool owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Humming sound when off

I also have the same microwave model and with the same problem. It is not quite 2 years old. I have a service call scheduled but did e-mail customer service at Whirlpool to inform them of this. Sounds like it could be defective model and a fire hazard. You should also inform them of yours.

My Whirlpool MH3184xps is shooting a spark when in use with the rack. When the rack is removed the oven works fine. I am guessing that some of the coating on the rack has cracked and peeled and is exposing some aluminum. Has anyone else had this problem?

Whirlpool Microwave Model MH3184XP

This is most often caused by a bad magnetron "scrambling" the controller, a bad connection on the controller, or a controller failure. Try to use the "timer" function of the oven. Make it count down without cooking for about a minute. If it works, then it's more likely to be a bad magnetron. If it still fails, it's probably a problem on the controller. We repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 in most cases. For more information see our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

New Microwave just went out no power

I had the same problem and fixed it with the help of others in this forum. There's a 250V 4A slow-blow fuse in a holder in one of the wires running from the main circuit breaker.  Just behind the upper end of the control panel.  Replacing said fuse got me running again.
