TV won't turn on, red light is on. Tried unpluuging, tried menu for 8 seconds

Hi. I love my tv but throughout the years the tv would shut itself off. While it was under warranty they would come and fix it then a couple of weeks later it would start again. I can't afford a new tc but I am real tech savy if someone can help me diagnose this. I can do voltage tests or whatever, just guide me away from getting shocked... haha. The tv has been working flawlessly except for the on and off thing. Last night we shut it off and this morning it wouldn't turn on. Please help, Thank you. Rick

Older-model Toshiba TV shuts off by itself
There is a large sand filled resistor on the main board close to where the power cord attaches that cracks. This will stop power until it cools enough to make the connection then heats up rapidly to open it again. It may be worth the trouble if you're handy with a soldering gun and can get the back off the TV. If not then I'd consider getting a flat screen.

this just happened to us, we tried the reset button, didn't work. we unplugged from surge protector and plugged the tv in the regular wall socket and after a few minutes the green light quit and we were able to turn tv on

The same I just replaced the bulb with a generic one and reset the counter. Now, the tv will work for about 3 minutes before it shuts off. the lamp light indicator goes on and off once every 5 seconds

Green flashes then tv turns off
or a new lamp. you could first replace the lamp.
the screen might work fine for a couple of seconds, but then it fades away or deteriorates. This means the lamp is going bad.
