Need a Windows Vista driver for Samsung SCD6040 Camcorder

I have been looking for an updated driver for the Samsung SCD6040 digital camcorder. The only driver available from the Samsung site dates to pre-Vista (2004). Do you know whether there is a vista-capable driver available, and if so, where it can be found to download? I have had no luck in locating one so far. Thank you.

That is what I was afraid of. Situations like this is why Windows Vista has had such a problem being accepted. The Camcorder was purchased in 2004. Vista was released in 2007. In my opinion, this isn't a big enough spread in years not to develop a driver for this device.

Well, enough of my soap box. I don't blame Microsoft for that. Samsung, I would think, made that decision to make their product obsolete before its time. My decision...I probably won't replace the camera with a Samsung product. Oh well. Thank you for your reply. I do appreciate it.

Your camcorder is compatible with Windows XP only.
No Vista driver update from Samsung.

    Note:
In some instances, the camera or camcorder may not be recognized by the computer when connected. In this case, check to see if there is an updated driver available for your model.

Windows Vista will not let Windows Movie Maker import/edit videos

I would look for a more recent driver on the Samsung support website specifically for  Vista; it apparently does not have the right (or any) driver to permit it to work with your DVD camcorder. I don't think any of your hardware, computer or camcorder is dysfunctional, Windows just has to know how to communicate with it.
What you might try first is to have the camcorder connected (USB I assume) and reboot your PC. If Win can see it at all, you should get a screen message that it has found new hardware.  If it has some basic driver on hand, the message might state 'installing software for your device.'

    Software upgrades

Um... this is a DVD camcorder, right. What are you expected a camcorder driver to do for you? Just put the DVD into the computer.

If you're after USB drivers for the still mode, those should only be necessary on older OSs.... Windows XP and Vista had built-in drivers for USB storage-class devices.

It's quite possible some of the applications (basic video editor, I don't know what else they might ship with the camcorder) don't work under Vista. Samsung doesn't have any software updates posted for this camcorder, and I wouldn't hold my breath... CE companies aren't likely to support products in the way you might be used to from computer companies. Given that you have Vista, you can probably import and edit video using Windows Movie Maker.
