I found an article on how to unclog Brother inkjet nozzles on the InkMagic website. It worked for me.

http://www.inkmagic.com/Articles/Unclog%20nozzles%20on%20your%20Brother%20multifunction%20inkjet%20printer.htm

I'm also using their ink now. I'm a photographer so colour is really important to me. InkMagic ink is as close to the orginal Brother ink as I've found. The MFC-240 cartridges are here:

http://www.inkmagic.com/shopping/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=1133&cat=Brother+MFC+240c

Hope this helps ... Dale

Use a syringe and nail polish remover: Take approximately 1 ml of nail polish remover (which women use) in a syringe and push it with lots of air into nozzle. Clean cartridge housing after that, make it dry. Do three or four test print, it should solve your problem

My mfc-240c won't print red, even with a new cartdrige.

Try running a few cleanings on the color.

Press the ink button and select cleaning,, do about five cleanings. Print the ink quality test page (from the ink button as well) and see the quality if it improved.

If it still doesnt print its possible the ink is clogged and may need servicing to replace the printer head

My Brother MFC-240C printer is causing me grief. It prints out in black as though it is out of black ink but the ink is full. The other colors print out ok. Any thougths?

If the colors print OK, you could try cleaning the black nozzles. (Your machine may allow you to clean just the black or the colors, or all the nozzles).

1) Press the <Ink> or <Ink management> key

2) Use <Up> or <Down> arrows to navigate to "Cleaning" and press <OK>

3) Use <Up> or <Down> arrows to navigate to color that needs cleaning, or "All" and press <OK>

4) The display will show "Cleaning" and "Please wait"

5) After completion, the printer should be ready

If the problem persists, brother advises that you may need to repeat the process up to four times. If still no results, contact brother customer service.

I have a Brother MFC 240C printer that will not print black ink. I just changed all the cartridges. All the other cartridges print. I ran the clean cycle many times. No error messages just blank paper.

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.

Good Luck

Prints blue and black only

I have had this happen on mine as well. The nozzles are not clogged (which cleaning would fix) the lines going between them and the cartridges most likely has a clot in it. Call in Brother's tech support and have it replaced by warranty, I have so far replaced for the same problem twice.
