I bought an xbox 360 wireless networking device and am trying to cnnect to the internet through my belkin router. It says that it doesn't have an ip address and that the test was failed. How do i fix this?
I forgot to mention that it does receive a signal and can detect the wireless network, it just says that the IP Address test failed.I forgot to mention that it does receive a signal and can detect the wireless network, it just says that the IP Address test failed.
You can't post conmments that contain an email address.
All devices on your network should be assigned an IP address. They need it to be identified on the network.
You can try rebooting your router. The wireless on belkin routers can be a bit temperamental. Then try the 360 setup.
If you are still coming up blanks, then check your router's DHCP server setting. Make sure that it is turned on. (It is the function that assigns the IP address.)
My lat suggestion is to manually assign an address to the 360. Try this only if you are familiar with how IP addresses work.
Hope this helps....

If other devices can connect once your son is off then it might not be a problem with a router. Try connecting the xbox VIA WI-FI. If the problem persits i would contact your ISP.
I've never heard of a Wireless Adapter turning amber or orange? This can be a simple light problem inside your Xbox 360. If it were fixed, the highest possibility is that color should be red. If so, this means the connection is not strong enough to your modem, and adapter. You will have move your Xbox 360 console closer to your wireless modem for the connection to be the best.
XBOX 360 is alredy wifi enabled you dont have to plug a thing in to it, if you want to configure wireless
All you got to do is turn on your wireless router/access point and try to search for available network in Xbox 360 and upon selectin the network it would ask for wireless key (WEP key cab found on the back or bottom of router) punch in the key and bingo...its done
Your box is ready to be wirelessly connected to internet and play online
alternatively if you dont ahve a wirelss router or you are facing difficulty is seraching wireless router or finding the security key
Connect the router to modem > then connect the router and XBOX with an ethernet cable
It will work
Else you can also try connecting the modem and XBOX with an ethernet or USB cable
(However in all the aboove scenario, please ensure the modem is getting the internet link through the normal RJ11 or phone cable, please dont unplug that else though your XBOX would be connected to Modem or router but it wont get internet connection)
first check whether the gaming ports for xbox have been forwarded in the belkin router or not....if not do it first....if you dont know the port numbers call xbox support and get the list of port numbers to be forwarded.... then enable DMZ for the ip address of XBOX in belkin router... then enable UPNP in belkin router.... atlast Disable firewall in belkin router.... your XBOX will go online and GET UPDATE..... you can call belkin tech support of your country to assist you to forward ports for XBOX in belkin router... if you reside in USA/Newzealand/Australia/Canada you can call this toll free 1800 2 BELKIN(235546)...... or you can call my personal mobile... Im from India country code +91 Mobile number 9003593572
that happens alot when one or more device (for instance, the xbox 360 and a cpu) are trying to use the same ip address make sure you have the xbox 360 and all other devices (cpu's/printers) that are connected to the router set to aquire ip address automatically
You can not use the Belkin Wireless G USB Adapter for the XBox 360. You must buy a USB Wifi adapter that supports the Xbox 360. (See Microsoft's USB WiFi Network Adapter)
How do you connect your Linksys router to Belkin router? Do you connect your Linksys router to the Internet/WAN port of the Belkin?
If so, what is the Internet connection type set in your Belkin router? Is it dynamic?
If the Belkin router is set to dynamic IP and if it is obtaining an IP address from your Linksys router(you may check the status page of your Belkin router and look for IP address), then you may need to forward or set that IP address as the DMZ to your Linksys router. Make sure that XBOX is still configured as the DMZ host in your Belkin
I forgot to mention that it does receive a signal and can detect the wireless network, it just says that the IP Address test failed.
