Thumping Subwoofer I have had this problem for quite some time but learned to live with it but doing some extensive research has lead me to believe that I can possibly correct this. System: Kenwood VR-6060 JBL SCS 145.5 speaker system (connected via LFE) I get a loud thump through my powered subwoofer whenever I switch listening modes on my receiver and when I shut it down. Note, that when I turn my receiver on the thump does not occur as the display reads ?Mute? when the unit first starts up. However, when I mute the system it thumps first, then mutes. When I unmute it there is no thump. Other than that the system works fine. No humming, no other noises. -The thump does not occur in any of the other speakers. -I exchanged the subwoofer when I first purchased it, thinking that it was a manufactured problem. -I have purchased a high quality Monster cable for the LFE connection. -I have tried the subwoofer on a friends system and it worked fine, no thump. -I have tried switching the amp on the sub to ?Always On?. -I have also tried switching the receiver from ?Full Auto? to ?Digital Manual? but whenever the system moves from a Dolby Digital signal (such as my Xbox) to and analog signal (such as TV) the thump persists, not to mention the thump still remains on shutdown. -I have tried grounding the sub to the amp. I have heard some people talk about ?ground loops? and how that may be the case. I am aware that this may have an effect on humming noises but could an isolator remove this thump as well? Neither the sub nor the receiver have an earthing/ground prong so I am not sure if the ground loop will have an effect. My house has pretty old electrical wiring, like 20+ years so it maybe an electrical issue but I just want to know if there is away around it. The only thing I haven?t done is unplug everything and set up both the receiver and the sub at a different, newer house. My only hesitation is because I am lazy to unplug and replug everything but if this is the only way to isolate this issue I will. Your thoughts and ideas are greatly appreciated. Richard

I don't have a specific LFE output setting on my receiver but I can adjust the subwoofer level from -10db to +10db. I will try adjusting the volume on both.

your systems lfe output level settings should be checked and sub, it may also be that if the sub is not getting a signal in a different setting then it will start to thump because the sub level is high but no signal, and if that don't do it then its the lfe output circuit that needs testing and or component replacement

SOURCE: Cannot get the subwoofer to

After making sure that your subwoofer is receiving power, as most models have their own amplifier, make sure that it actually is turning on. There is a possibility of a faulty power switch. Lets rule that out first.
Once the switch is on and the proper power connection is verified, turn your attention to the setup menu on your receiver. Navigate to the LFE/Sub output level. Adjust it up all the way. Then navigate to the crossover setting. Turn it up all the way. If the subwoofer also has it's own control panel including a crossover, turn that up all the way as well. Then with an input on the receiver that has a subwoofer output set up such as for DVD, play some audio. Or likewise you can also use the receivers' test tone capability that will pan each channel individually with a wide band pink noise signal that also includes a signal sent to the subwoofer output.

If this procedure does not produce results then send me a message including your subwoofer model and your observations of your systems' operation.

Why is my Onkyo SKW-591 making a thumping sound?

The thumping sound might be originating from problems within internal parts, like capacitors or resistors, which could be contributing to the issue

Does an electric pressure washer need to be earthed. my extension lead is only 2 core

Do you wish to die? YES, water and electricity can kill. Get a better extension lead and live to tell the tale. This is incredibly important. I cannot stress this enough.

I have a Powersmart DB 5004 electric snow shovel which was purchased last year and used 4 times. It worked fine last week but now does not turn on. It is just dead. What can I do to correct this.

To be honest such things are out of my experience. We English don't have and rarely need such luxuries, however I do have some experience of things driven by electric motors.

Your snow thrower has a powerful electric motor that needs quite a lot of electricity to drive it and a good power extension lead to get it there. The first thing is to check (carefully) that the lead and all the connections are good and power can reach from the power outlet to the appliance. Extension leads can be quite unreliable things.

Before you plug the appliance in make certain the bearings aren't seized by turning the blades by hand.

I suggest you read the instructions thoroughly. Appliances such as yours that must work hard for a living often have a safety cut-out in case of overload or overheating. Some safety cut-outs reset automatically and some need resetting manually.
Lots of appliances intended for domestic use also have a thermal fuse placed in close proximity to the motor, unfortunately the appliance must be dismantled to access this safety device.

When you have checked all you can check and are certain power is reaching the device and found it still doesn't work it will be time to hand it over to the experts unless you have been wise and included an engineer or similar in your circle of friends.

Good luck!

I will be honest also

You think a lot of things & are out of ideas

You have changed some parts & spent some
money doing so,& have not gained on the problem

No you need to learn your cars systems & learn how to
test them or take it to a repair shop

I mean this in the most respectful way,but your approaching
vehicle repairs without the knowledge necessary & we can not
guess at all the possible things ,only for you to believe we are
somehow experts & you throw more parts at it.

YouTube video

I had the same problem with my old ISP provider. It's probably due to a slow Internet connection.

The best thing you can do is download the files before watching them.

You can do that by using the firefox extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006 or using a site such as http://savetube.com

I know that is not as good as watching a live stream, but under the current state of your network I believe this is the best solution.

Wharfdale sw150 subwoofer ticks then pops

It should go into standby mode when you shut the rest of your system down. The led on the back is supposed to be green when in use and red when on standby. I believe yours should have the "auto on" switch on the back. If you are manually shutting the sub off make sure it is the 1st thing you power down. It should not pop then. As much volume as it puts out you could damage the speaker if you do anything to cause a pop. If it pops while watching a movie or with music, check connections. I believe the manual says left input is the recommended one.

My subwoofer (Altec Lansing[AVS500]) is always makeing a thumping

You could only verify this by gaining access to the rear of the speaker but I suspect that the 'spider' has come unglued. This is a device that surrounds the lower (inner) end of the cone to provide a second point of suspension; without this, the voice coil can slap against the side or bottom of the magnet structure.
I don't think a repair is an economical choice for these; repairs only make sense for 'professional' speakers that cost several hundred dollars to replace.
