How di I scan using my 946 dell printer - Dell 946 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Download the software directly from this site http://download.cnet.com/Dell-AIO-Printer-946/3000-2116_4-109339.html This will work for the MAC apple system as well. This site has free software so do not be concerned with paying once you see what you need.

You would have to do that on your PC. You can cut and paste images.

Did you install the DELL printer-driver software onto the new laptop?

If you've lost that CD-ROM, access the manufacturer's web-site:

http://support.dell.com

and enter '946' and do a search for the device-driver software.

Dell says it will. It actually uses the Vista driver. If you do not have it, you can download it from:

This is your driver causing the problem. If the download was for several printers you can try to reinstall the driver manually for your specific printer. If the driver was supposed to be for your specific printer then dell has put out a bad driver which they do sometimes. You can try alerting them through their forums,their customer support, or call them and once they know they have a problem, they're usually pretty quick to fix it.I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver first though sometimes they don't install right if the computer is under a heavy load.

You could scan the image into your computer and then print multiple copies from the scanned image.

Here's a link to the XP Drivers. I would uninstall, reboot, download new drivers, and install them. If that doesn't work let me know.

OK, I can't believe I'm actually solving anyone's problem, but, this is what solved it for me. Following the instructions in my 946 AIO Owner's Manual, on page 87, there is a heading called Removing and Reinstalling Software. It says if your printer is not working correctly or if communication error messages appear, you can remove and reinstall the printer software. I did just that and my scanner is now back in service!!!! Hope this helps.

dell 946 will not receive a fax but will send a fax.
