Laptop keeps looping in the boot menu. Does not matter which option I try (safe mode etc) it just does the same thing and eventually goes to a blue screen that has data on it the last line looks like long numbers with lots of zeros, but if only stays for half a second and then loops back to the black boot screen. I can't boot anything from the cd/dvd drive or any imput port, although before this problem they all worked fine.

if the recovery disk would not run to load the program than your hard drive is probably bad have you been into the machine and seen the hard drive have a look at the front where the wires plug in and there is a slot for jumpers to select the hard drive function make sure its set for master only. most hhard drives will not have a jumper for master setting if there is a jumper make sure its set right .

Laptop hard drives are usually the 1st to go when it comes to issues with laptops.
I would recommend replacing it. Roughly 50 bucks for a 40 or 60Gb laptop Hard drive. Install it and try your recovery cd again.
My wifes laptop is from 2001 and it has gone through 2 hard drives. Its just the way they are. Backup data, always!
G'luck

Is the fan working? It might be overheating.
Or one of the drivers is corrupt, and crashing the computer. The only way to solve that is by remotely (by means of starting from CD with a mobile OS).

I removed the hard disk and then that way the system recognized the CD drive with the Windows installation CD inserted.
When the installation wizard started, I inserted the hard disk on its place and then it could be formatted and the windows and drivers installation ended successfully.
The odd part is that the M45-S355 shuts down after five to ten minutes of use. It does not happen in safe mode. Should this have to be with the processor´s fan?
Thank you.
Victor.

Hi there.
That really quick flash of a blue screen is the blue screen of death and there is a possibility that the error could be memory related.
What you have to do is remove and clean the system memory and the slots the memory goes into.
Take out the battery and the AC power (if attached)
The memory will be located behind a panel underneath the laptop, unscrew the panel unclip the memory, clean the brass contacts and the slots with a clean, dry, soft paintbrush, then reseat the memory making sure it clips into place, replace the memory cover and reboot the laptop, see if it lets you into windows.
Please post back with the results and more help if needed, good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Thanks all for your suggestions....Not sure about the banana skins though! :) I'm not that confident to take the machine apart...but I may have a go. I am interested to know though whether this sounds like a virus problem or maybe machine overheated and fried something?? The Laptop belongs to my 15 yer old son, who (of course) doesn't really know if there seemed to be anything wrong the last time he used it. He says that he shut it down and the next time he tried to boot up it did this loopy thing! I'm really trying to systematically rule out possibilites. And hope to not have to spend too much money on it. Thanks
