Screen goes to half light when on battery power

Just replaced the hard drive and have resolved all problems EXCEPT the screen now goes to half light when I go to battery. I've been all over it but can't find a way to say "NO"

Can anyone give me the step by step to fix this?

Thanks, Ian

Your notebook is set to conserve battery power. This reduces the brightness of the screen to preserve battery power. Try setting your power options in the control panel from "max battery" to "always on"

start> control panel> power options> power schemes tab> click power schemes triangle.a drop down list appears, change "max battery" to "always on" then click apply.

Hi, I have bought this dell vostro 1015 laptop one and half year ago. Day before yesterday my windows XP hanged and I was unable to shut down. So I pressed power on button for few seconds to switch off...

It sounds like your hard drive has gone bad. As this is a laptop you can try to reseat the hard drive, if that does not help then it might be a case of hard drive crash.

No display on hp 6345s laptop

Try to turn off your system. Then remove the cables and battery on the laptop. Then press and hold the power button for 8 secs. Then, reinsert the cables and battery on the laptop. Then, press the power button to turn on the laptop. If the HDD light flickers continuously, then the problem is on the Hard Drive. One way of resolving it is to Re-Seat the Hard Drive. If you know how to tear down the system, here's how. Turn off the laptop, remove the cables and battery at the back. Remove the screws located at the corners of it. Then remove and reinsert back the Hard Drive. If it still fails, contact ACER to immediately replace the Hard Drive. If you don't know how to tear down the laptop, then call ACER also for repair....

Will removing the battery will a disc be needed

- battery and power adapter are for power supply. Files are saved in your Hard Drive. Files save in the hard drive will not be lost if power supplies are removed except for unsaved information of course.

for the flickering screen - the LCD may need replacement, contact the manufacturer.

Hard drive failure

You can contact this companies regarding data recovery. The "Genius" was wrong about the drive being retuned to Apple, that will only occur if you have a system under warranty, and you would be returning it to Apple to avoid being charged.

As far as replacement hard drive going for $325, that too is pretty steep, see this link:
