IBM T30 Start Up Problem

Hi, I have a IBM t30 and it will not boot up. One of our IT guys are work told me it was the hard drive so I bought one but still have the same problem. When I push the power on button all the lights except the hard drive light come on for about a second then go off. The battery light stays on. Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Drew

My T30 will not boot up at all. it will go to the IBM screen for a second then it goes to black screen with the white curser blinking. I hit F12 and F1 to see if I can start it in safe mode but it just goes into the menu where you set the time & so forth. I checked the CMOS battery connection and it was fine. It was working great when I turned it off last night. It has done simular things before but I always was able to fix it. This time I am not sure what is happening.. Greg

I have the same problem described above with the Thinkpad T30. To answer ImWireless, the initial POST screen is not seen. All the lights (except the hard drive light) come on for about 1 second and then everyhthing shuts off. Also, the battery light flahses orange twice and promptly shuts off with everything else. Any help?

HI Before send it to IBM, I suggest to check for the connection of your CMOS Battery connection. IBM lpatop has this weakpoint specially T-Series. Check for any bad connection and try to replace the new one to be sure the issue is not from CMOS Battery. DO THIS SMALL CHANGE FIRST BEFORE THINK OF SERIOUS ONE TO AVOID SPENDING UNEXPECTED MONEY. I have fixed my friend T24 has the similar problem and it is fix by reconnect the CMOS Battery connector since CMOS Battery is still working. Try it first before send it to IBM because they may do the same job but eat your money more than you expected unless you are still under warranty. Good Luck.

Does the notebook turn on? Do you see the initial POST (the startup screen)? If the laptop not turninng on at all (if you are able to see a blank screen), it may not necessarily be the hard drive. The laptop would turn on anyway even if there is no hard drive. Please revert back with more details. ty

Ibm t30 boots with error 1820, unauthorized minipci card, remove and reboot

Updating the BIOS firmware will not lose any data on your hard disk.
If the BIOS update is not installed properly or malfunctions then the T30 may stop working unless you can roll back the BIOS update.

I bought a new Western Digital PATA 320gb notebook hard drive for my Thinkpad T30. The bios recognizes the drive but when I try to boot from the dvd rom drive it won't boot. What's the problem?

Take a look at this image, read the Had drive manual on how to set the jumper, Try cable select jumper settings, if not work, try the master settings, if not try the slave settings, one of the settings must go on and works fine.

Here where you can find the jumper settings,

IBM T30 Start-up HD options

Why do you what to boot up from the 2nd hard drive?
If you want to boot up with a different operating system from a 2nd drive, I suggest you set up a dual boot system with the other operating system on the 2nd drive.
When you boot up you will be given a menu and you can choose which operating system you want. There is a time delay and if you don't choose a system it will default to the first operating system on the list.

IBM Thinkpad T30 wont boot up

You have faulty RAM modules. Reseat your RAM modules, to make sure they make proper connection. If this doesn't work take them to your friendly computer shop and ask them to test them for you.

Ibm t30 laptop has no video at start up

Try doing a hard reboot.

Unplug AC and remove battery.
Press and hold POWER for 30 seconds.
Plug in AC.
Turn on.
Upon bootup insert battery.

If this does not work I regret to say the graphics card is busted.

Ibm t30

This is not good. It generally indicates that the security chip on the motherboard has malfunctioned. A hard drive failure can also cause this occasionally, but mostly it's the chip. Start by trying a new hard drive, if it works, GREAT, if not then the chip has malfunctioned and locked the system. Your only option is replacing the motherboard.
