I am absolutley furious with my printer. Forget trying to print large jobs, pictures or something with too much color The printer just stops during the printing cycle and the error light flashes.
What can I do to stop this, its very frustrating.

Without knowing any more, all I can do is take you through a tedious set of steps:
Is it plugged in? Unplug the power cord at both ends, then plug it back in.
Is it connected to your computer? Unplug the cord at both ends, then plug it back in.
Is it turned on? Press the power button. Do any lights change (go on or off, change color, flash, etc.)?
Send a print job to the printer. Does the printer show any signs of realizing it's been asked to print something (an indicator light or something moving inside)?
Open the print queue. Delete all the jobs that are in there. Shut down the printer. Restart the computer. Turn the printer back on. Try printing.
Are you getting error messages?
What happened before it stopped working? Did you install new software? Move anything?
"the printing operation has been aborted. The
issue can be caused by a firmware error, invalid print commands,
corrupt data, invalid operations, poor quality parallel cables, poor
connections or specific applications.
Action :
1> Press Cancel Job to clear the print job from the printer memory. 2> Turn the printer off and then on to clear the error message. 3>
Try printing a job from a different software program. If the job
prints, go back to the first program and try printing a different file.
If the message appears only with a certain software program or print
job, contact the software vendor for assistance.
If the above action does not solve the issue, contact HP or authorized service provider."
Try this, it may be a large print job held in memory.
Press to clear the message, cancel the current print job, and conduct the next print job, if any.
· Press Cancel to cancel the print job.· Press Menu to open Stored Print and delete the holding job. · To avoid this error in the future, do the following:· Delete unnecessary fonts, macros, and other data in printer memory. · Install additional printer memory.
If one job isn't printing, cancel it, and let the other one's print. I read somewhere there is a 2GB limit on print spool jobs...and if you reach that limit, everything locks up. I am not sure on it...but if you have a realy large document, either print it alone, well, just print it alone. Try to spool your print jobs from the smallest ones first, and don't overload it. The is especially true of printing pictures...because if you don't resize them, they can be especially large files (and large pictures) sometimes you don't realize that what you are viewing on screen is only 26% of the actual picture size...especially if you have say, a 8MP or higher camera pixel size capability.
Control Panel Message: 49.XX.XX PRINTER ERROR To continue turn off then on
Description: A critical firmware error has occurred that caused the processor on the formatter to abort operation. This type of error can be caused by invalid print commands, corrupt data, or invalid operations. In some cases, electrical noise in the cable can corrupt data during transmission to the printer. Other causes include poor-quality parallel cables, poor-connections, or home-grown programs. On rare occasions, the formatter is at fault, which is usually indicated by a 79 Service Error.
Recommended Action: 1. Turn the printer off then on. 2. Press Stop to clear the print job from the printer memory. 3. Turn the printer off then on. 4. Try printing a job from a different software program. If the job prints, go back to the first program and try printing a different file. If the message displays only with a certain software program or print job, contact the software vendor for assistance. 5. If the message persists with different software programs and print jobs, disconnect all of the cables to the printer that connect it to the network or computer. 6. Turn the printer off. 7. Remove all memory DIMMs or thirdparty DIMMs from the printer. (Do not remove the firmware DIMM.) 8. Remove all EIO devices from the printer. 9. Turn the printer on. 10. If the error no longer exists, install each DIMM and EIO device one at a time, making sure to turn the printer off and on again as you install each device. 11. Replace a DIMM or EIO device if you determine that it causes the error. 12. Remember to reconnect all of the cables that connect the printer to the network or computer. 13. If the error persists, upgrade the firmware compact flash card. See Installing a flash memory card on page 113. 14. Replace the formatter and calibrate the printer. See Full Calibrate Now on page 521.
Have you tried unpluging your printer from the computer as well as unpluging the printer from the electrical? If that doesn't work you should start from scratch... that is remove the printer from the computer memory, delete it, turn off the computer, turn on the computer and go through the installation process as if you just purchased the printer. Barring any mechanical problems as in jams or the such, the printer should return to operational status.

Stangowner,
In this case, the print job is too large for the available printer memory.
Your choices are one of the following:
Press to clear the message, cancel the current print job, and conduct the next print job, if any.
· Press Cancel to cancel the current print job.
· Press Menu to open the Stored Print and delete the current job.
To avoid this error in the future, do the following:
· Reduce the number of print pages such as splitting the print data.
· Increase free memory space by deleting unnecessary data in the RAM disk.
As for the RAM disk:
When you send a job to the printer, you can specify in the driver that you want the printer to hold the job in memory.
When you are ready to print the job, you must go to the printer and use the operator panel menus to identify which job in the memory you want to print. You can use this function to print a confidential job (Secure Print), or verify one copy before printing additional copies (Proof Print).
NOTE: The printer holds the job until you delete it by using the operator panel or you turn off the printer. (This is the RAM disk)
NOTE: Print and Hold functions require a minimum of 320 MB available printer memory. Also, you need to configure the RAM disk settings on either the OPERATOR PANEL OR THE PRINTER DRIVER.
NOTE: Depending on the documents, its job may be too big for the available memory. In this case, an error occurs.
Take this link and print it out. It will help you later when you get "other" error messages.
