Could my laptop screen be leaking?

My laptop monitor has a large black blotch in the upper left hand corner. It affects everything on the screen below it. There are horizontal lines. Can it be fixed?

Agree but if you don't mind the black spot keep it. Replacing the LCD is not difficult as long as you have the patience and small screw drivers and you need an assistant to hold the LCD while installing it/
Also buy anti-static gloves from an electronic store

Sounds like the LCD has sustained physical damage. Replacement is the normal solution.

I am having issues with my laptop Dell Vostro 1510. Getting a black screen and white cursor in the upper left hand corner.

The error code indicates that the system is not able to access or detect any Hard Disk Drive.
If comfortable you can try the following:
1. Open your laptop following the below guide
2. Look for the Hard Disk Drive
3. Remove it from the system
4. Re-seat the Hard Disk drive
5. Re-start the system

If still the HDD is not detected I am afraid to say that the Drive is gone bad and needs a replacement.

Kindly feel free for any further clarification or assistance.

When booting up, the monitor status splash shows up. Then it goes into a black screen with some small white boxes in upper left-hand corner. It takes forever to display the log-in screen, probably more...

Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in 'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch On.

Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System Restore

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the previous month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select any date that you see in Bold.

The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.

Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

After reboot your problem should be resolved.

A black _ in the upper left hand corner (size of underscore)

It is what we call a "Shatted Pixel" and you can fix it by flashing your screen

There is a large black area in the upper left hand corner of the screen

If it is a square box, it is usually a text box. It can be fixed by turning closed captioning off. Either hit the CC button on the remote until off appears. Or go in to the menu find closed captioning or text and turn off. If it is not a defined box, it could be something inside the tv.

Screen has a vertical black band on right hand side

You might have a centering control among the options of your monitor. Look up the manual, or just play with the buttons until you find it.

Unwanted Message

Generic Answer:

With most models of these monitors, hold in the menu key for more than 10 seconds.

If the above does not work, call the manufacture tech support. The monitor may need service.

Color distortion

Move any speakers or electrical devices away from the set. It could also be anything electronic or magnetic. Anything near the set that generates a magnetic or electromagnetic field could be causing the distortion.
