One stud in the middle for an OTR Microwave Install?

Hi guys. I picked up a new Kenmore OTR Microwave to install in my kitchen and have a few questions.

1. There is one stud I can use to mount the Microwave to the wall and it's smack in the middle of the cabinets. Will it be ok to use toggle bolts for the corners and one wood screw in the middle to mount the bracket? Will that, along with the two top bolts, be enough to hold it in place?

2. The Microwave is 16 5/8" high and there is 31" of space between the bottom of the cabinet and top of the range. It looks like the Micrwave will hang down about 4" below the bottom of the cabinet. Is this normal or shoudl I look to replace the 17" cabinet on top of the range with a 12" one?

Thanks for the help!

I had the same trouble, yes i used a solid bolt to hold the microwave bracket in the stud then used the biggest toggle bolts that will fit, also the cabinet will not have to be changed. it works fine, if you had a vent a hood dont forget to hook up the exhaust vent. i figure your old exhaust vent is in the cabinet like mine was

Kenmore convection microwave burnt rice and bowl black sticky film noticed by fans area and inside looks discoloured smells burnt from rice and bowl that were black burnt....

Disconnect power and wipe down with vinegar and baking soda solution. Then plug in and heat the same solution for a minute or two. This should take that smell away.

I removed the bolts for my Danby OTR microwave. Dmw162w-otr. The microwave does not move. Are there any other bolts or is there anything I am missing before I can remove the microwave?

In a normal installation, there is a plate that mounts to the wall and bolts come down through the cabinet. Once the bolts are removed from the cabinet above mic, the mic should hindge forward. It takes two people to handle. How ever, in some cases an installation guy will add screws into the side of the unit. So look for some screws to the right and left of mic. Good luck!

Kenmore microwave combination microwave turntable makes a loud sound like a bearing is going out. Can I fix it myself?

Is this an over-the-range (OTR) microwave oven? If so, it is easy to change that turntable motor. First unplug the microwave. Then remove the 6 to 8 screws that hold the bottom panel in place. It will tilt down, with the back being held by the wall bracket. Now you can easily get to the turntable motor. Remove the wires to it, and remove the 1 or 2 screws that hold it in place, and you can easily remove it. Before you can install the new motor, remove the glass try, and rotate the coupler so it lines up with the "D" shape of the shaft, push the motor up in place and replace the screws, then the wires to it, and finally re-fasten the bottom panel of the microwave.

Can I replace a 1.3 cu ft otr microwave with a 1.5

Brackets can remain the same throughout a particular brand for several years but will also change every year at times. Same year and same brand, I would say yes. Different year of manufacture or different brand name I would say, no it will not fit the existing brackets. If you have a particular brand in mind and have the model number of the existing OTR, it is usually possible to search out installation instructions for both at the manufacturer's website. You could then compare to see if they will match up. The two screws through the upper cabinet floor into thr top of the OTR can vary, within a particular brand even in the same year of manufacturer.

Need to know how to install

THERE IS EITHER OR BOTH A BRACKET THAT SHOULD BE SECURED TO THE WALL STUDS TO SUPPORT THE MICROWAVE AND THERE ARE THREE LONG SCREWS THAT GO THROUGH THE CABINET ABOVE THE MICROWAVE WITH AN OUTLET IN THE CABINET. THERE IS AN INSTALLATION GUIDELINE IN BOX. IF YOU STILL FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE HAVE YOUR SUPPLIER GET SOMEONE TO INSTALL.

Microwave range hood install -- stud in middle of exhaust

You have a few options, First off, I am assuming that the stud you refer to is an outside wall. Assuming that is true, then you have a few options.... one of them is to cut thru the stud and run the vent out. Even if that stud is on a bearing wall ( meaning it is carrying a roof load above it) ... It is unlikely to pose a problem if that one stud has been compromised with it cut out, If that concerns you.. and you are handy, you can open that area of wall up from the inside and box the area that the vent will be located in with short pieces of 2x4 to the studs on either side of it... Another option is to vent the hood up thru the cabinet above and direct that out slightly offset to the stud in the wall..
One thing I have done is to cut the stud out and then to place a piece of 1/2" plywood in the area that the micro/hood will be located and attach that piece with drywall screws to the studs in the wall.. That piece of plywood will help support the stud you cut when you screw it to the adjacent studs and also act as a place to secure the hood mounting bracket on the wall. Granted, it shifts the hood out from the wall 1/2 " but then you have plenty of surface to secure the plate and don't have to worry about hitting a stud or using wall anchors.. I hope you understand my comments..If not...please respond to this and I will provide additional information to clarify this... Hope this helps !

How to Remove an OTR Microwave from the wall

first you need to take the grill off the front of the micro there should be two screws on the very top of the unit that allow you to take the grill cover off there also should be two screws in the cabinet above the micro that hold the unit in place some models have a silver hook or latch on the left side that you pull forward to release the unit from the back plate do not pull on this till you have taken out the two set screw on top of the cabinet after doing this the micro should come down
