Logic had taught me that the first and best place to start trouble shooting a problem is with the Owners/Operators manual. When that doesn't work, reach out to those in the field that might have some expertise. That hasn't seemed to work either.Logic had taught me that the first and best place to start trouble shooting a problem is with the Owners/Operators manual. There are several things people call computers, that are just modules or processors & their all over the car
The PCM/ECM whatever name you prefer, don't fail often & have no real way to test, as you do with most components. So,I would say there is a 70% chance it was good.

If your system is running XP then there is a file from Microsoft that you can download that may fix the problem. Remember once you have installed the fix you have to restart the computer for any changes to take effect. Click on the link below for the download.
If your sysem is not XP and you are using Vista or Win 7 then don't download this fix as it will not work. Instead right click on Computer and select Properties from the sub menu. When the properties window comes up have a look at the processor under System and see if it shows how many cores the processor is currently showing.
Your computer has only 512MB of RAM.That will just barely run your XP,forget about doing anything else. You need a minimum of 1GB,2GB is even better.Your computer works in RAM not your hard-drive.The hard-drive is for storage, the RAM is for running your programs. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01311536.pdf
This link is your manual and it will walk you thru the procedure.Hope this helps?
